Out of curiosity, why in the world are people excited about the number of characters you can make? In other games, I get it, that's the only way to experience a new class. Thinking of making another class in FFXIV seems like a waste.

I have 6 lvl 50s. The thought of doing all of the class quests and jobs quests makes my head spin. I understand the appealing thought of creating ONE extra character to experience the new world from scratch... but what's the point of ever making more than two characters if your original character can be and do everything in the game, AS ANY CLASS.

Maybe someone can shed some light on something I'm not seeing... Plus, I have plans on going male miqote, which doesn't require a second character since we're going to be given that option at the start of 2.0....

What am i missing? (other than mules for market wards / extra storage / etc.?)

I'll probably use a character slot just so I can experience 2.0 fresh while keeping my original character for everyday stuff. Why 8, though? No idea. I'm not turning down free slots, however. The one big drawback I can see is that this will provide RMTs with more opportunities to farm.

I'm not, to be honest, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Honestly, one of the unique things about XI and XIV was to have just one character that really represented you rather than a million alts. I might make some alts just to see how the different new cs look, but leveling even one class to 50 on one character is slower than a lot of other MMOs' single class character progression. You'd have to worry about the time someone put in if they had multiple characters with all 50s.
