I just load up BDO when I'm waiting in queue. Being a newish player to that game I have a lot to do in preparation of the new season starting on December 22nd so it hasn't really bothered me that much. FFXIV is my main MMO but I don't feel any time pressure to complete everything in it as soon as possible.

As for damaging relationships and real life problems, that's been a problem for MMO gamers for about 20 years now. It's nothing new.
