With diverse jobs sharing gear sets - glamour locks are making less sense

I understand Yoshi wants to keep jobs looking "diverse" but in truth, now, locking jobs into sharing glamours with each other is making them lose identity.

Dancers are cursed with the cowboy aesthetic from Bard, or get bullets strapped somewhere. Red Mage has to share flowy robes with the other casters despite being a half physical job that could easily suit light armor. Reaper would look fantastic in a goth/robes type aesthetic but will be cursed to dragoons heavy armor sets. Healers are forever locked into the white version of a caster set and all tanks know is heavy armor. Monk forever has open toed sandals sharing with samurai, despite being a job that kicks.

The huge popularity of glamour pieces that can be shared across all jobs is surely a tell that players want more diverse options for their characters.

Personally, I was pretty disappointed to see they had put in the old player competition designed chest piece in the new dungeon and its once again for casters only. Casters got the first one? Why not switch it up? If we're doing so many reused, recoloured sets, why not assign them different roles to keep it fresh?

This - and being unable to glamour a set for each role makes me wonder why they bother with Doh/DoL glamours at all.

I love this game so much but the rigid and restrictive glamour system is truly the worst thing in it.

I agree for all the reasons given and additionally because there is little to no "role integrity" when it comes to appearance designs.

This is not to question the quality of whomever designs whatever sets, but pointing to the fact that a lot of times many of the items just doesn't follow what an "armored tank" or "scholary mage" would wear; maybe sometimes a hint of these roles here and there. The most aggravating example are the YoRHa items... If I took a picture of the sets from Copied Factory and showed them to a new player... Well, even a veteran who didn't know that raid, I highly doubt that person would be able to tell what is caster, what is scouting, what is fending...

And then, another argument to justify this is already the existence of a lot of "All Classes" items with actual stats for leveling and not just a lv1 glamour item.

Anyway, honestly the only thing right now that makes sense to have restrictions are the Job specific items, because they are signature relics.

Here's how I would do it:

For left-column gear (Head, chest, hands, legs, feet):
Fending, Maiming, Striking, Scouting, and Aiming gear can be displayed by all Disciple of War jobs and classes.
Healing and Casting gear can be displayed by all Disciple of Magic jobs and classes.
Crafting and Gathering gear can be displayed by all Disciple of the Hand and Disciple of the Land classes.
Class/job specific gear (I.e. rewards from completing class/job quest lines) remains restricted to its given class/job.

For right-column gear (Earring, necklace, bracer, rings):
All gear can be displayed regardless of class or job.

    For weapons and off-hands:
All restrictions remain as they currently are.

Here's a mockup tooltip I made (Note the change to class/job restrictions, directly under ITEM LEVEL 510):

But again, you're limiting casters to zero armor options and reaper and dancer to any robe/dress options. I say just open it up. It's been 10 years of the same old thing for every class.

If I can be any job I want, then I want to be able to dress how I appear how I want, provided I've earnt it. Which is fair.

In other games with one class per toon, different story.

... though, ESO does this exactly and it's an amazing system.

EDIT: ALSO, If I can dress like a F'ing Chicken regardless of class, or Chocobo, or Frog, or Pig, then I should be able to wear that Tank chest piece with Ninja pants.

Lock your special Feast armour for the pvp snowflakes that only 100 per server get anyway, no one cares, but open up the rest.

If you hit the job level requirement for an item you should be able to glamour it. Simple as that.

Remember that anyone can look like a namazu, moogle, frog, elephant, snowman and naked so the argument that a caster is expected to be in a robe and tank in full plate is moot.

Not to mention that Square themselves are completely ignoring their own restrictions when they dress their npcs, such as Hilda using the DRG hussar set (yes there is a crafter/gatherer variant but the red collared one is exclusively Dragoon) and Ala Mhigan resistance using healer/caster pvp hoods.

If I can tank dungeons in my classic golden thong glam, then why shouldn't I be able to wear some armor as a caster or some nice robes as any job?

A few years ago, I might've disagreed. But, DNC probably converted me. Still say that should've used Scouting, not Aiming. At least it would've fit the role a little bit closer.
