What you have to remember is that this game needs to be able to run on consoles and they're not going to go out of their way to do a complete graphical overhaul for PC users only. I love the way this game looks. FFVIIR had framerate issues on the PS4 and is apparently running horribly on most PC's, that's without being an online game with a large amount of player controlled, customisable character models on screen all at once. I would be surprised if the game ever does get a graphical upgrade and should it happen to don't expect some massive RDR2 looking overhaul because it won't happen.

We're more likely to see gradual improvements over a period of time the way blizzard does with WoW. Things like lighting and texture upgrades but I don't see them doing a massive overhaul to this games graphics ever as that is extremely time consuming and expensive.

They would not get more players because the new and current players would have to upgrade their computers if they don't already have good computers which can be pretty expensive. Outdated graphics or not, the game is fine as is. You don't always need fancy graphics to have fun.

i think a texture upscale would be enough. maybe make anti aliasing a bit better?
no need to actually touch the models imo they may be low-poly by todays standards but they work well enough with the artstyle

1.0 had better emotions and many things, it just does not work in an MMO, if you seen some of the 1.0 videos maybe the flowergirl one... you would take note of it.

You don't just run servers and if you think you can do such from your moms basement and think it is like a piece of cake, think again, especially when you blown up the first raid server array and the likes, it is not something you just do, it is specialist work, and if you need singleplayer ultra complex everything in an MMO, then it will not be fun to play, not even on a Geforce 3090 or Radeon 6900XT

Everyone wants an engine/graphics update until you suggest that 7.0 should do that with minimal new content...

Then they wail and gnash their teeth because they want a major graphics overhaul, an engine update, and new content...with fries.

The hard truth is that this iteration of this game is nearly a decade old and was developed to be compatible with PS3 hardware which is 15 years old. I think it's foolish to intentionally limit a game to accommodate people with decade-old hardware. When playing an MMORPG one should expect that it will progress with the times. After all, isn't that the point? The game cannot be kept stagnant in the 2013 era forever and at some point, hopefully very soon, they will upgrade the graphics.

It used to be the case that graphics were limited to accommodate the gaming system... and with the PS5 here, it is the case that graphics are being limited to accommodate old PCs.

According to this interview they are at least planning on upgrading the textures, but we don't know when it will be implemented.
