Let's not play coy. I know a ton of you guys are doing this. At the minimum you almost certainly know multiple people who are. So let's first dispel the notion that "it isn't really happening all that much"

How common is the perspective that it's fine to do this? Is it a consumers right to do this? Is it the right thing to do? Is it making the problem worse? I'd be interested to hear your case either way.

I'm not going to demonise someone who did something like got their SO to move their character every so often while they took their dog for a walk or cooked a meal. If they're playing the game before and after the short afk I'm fine with it. Similarly I'm not going to have a fit because someone had someone else go into queue for them so they could play by the time they get home from work. They're intending to play as soon as they're able.

It's those who manage to find a way to keep their character logged in even while they're sleeping irl for several hours is when I start to have an issue.

Yeah no. And I’ll be really honest about this. I tried it once and it worked, but since then I just can’t bring myself to do it. It just feels gross.

Not doing it and not had anybody else admit to doing it in the FC chat so it either isnt all that common or its seen as so reprehensible that even if you are doing it you're not confessing to it.

Lets rephrase it: Do I have the right to screw over other players by not allowing them into the game even though I'm not actually playing it myself at the moment? Answers no you dont but hey you do you, not like anyone on here can stop you or even influence you if you decide to be "that guy". Just bear in mind though that nobody likes "that guy".

Not the right thing to do but honestly i can't blame them. This whole mess isn't their fault and they don't cause the problem so when i see other players who sit in the same boat as everyone using them as a scapegoat for SE mistakes i can just shake my head. They didn't caused the problem to begin with and they don't cause longer queues since botting seems only a thing during the time where queues are 10-100 at max and not during the prime time when they obviously want to play.

So no not the right thing to do but they sure don't deserve to be the target of the players general frustration with the game since as we can obviously see being frustrated with SE doesn't bear fruits at all but at least we can be mad at some botting people and get them banned! That will make us feel better...for a moment...

But to offer people who play fair a tiny ray of hope, if you feel frustrated about these "cheaters" just imagine their electric bills. They might not pay with waiting time like the rest of us but pay they will indeed at the end of the month.

No one in my free company and friends circles are doing it to my knowledge. They are all fighting the queues to get in. I used to afk in game an awful lot but honestly can't anymore.

I understand why people are doing it but nobody has a "right" to do it. Just like I understand why people steal from others because they want things they don't have. However I do not condone it. It is most definitely making the problem worse. Instead of dealing with the actual population, SE must now deal with the NEW methods of circumvention and account for the (however small) afk botting population. They are literally part of the problem and thinking only of themselves.

No. It boils down to the "You are not stuck in traffic, you are traffic" argument IMO, and permanently taking a spot in the server is about as traffic-y as it gets.

If I have to log off for the night, or get up to do something else... then so be it. The circumstances certainly suck, but it's pointless to get fussy about it.
