I noticed that it was slightly more challenging but I can't tell if it's because I haven't played in ages or if it's because they made changes. Either way, I'm happy to be challenged again.

Again, I don't know what people are talking about regarding dungeons. On WHM, with the exception of Afflatus Rapture / Afflatus Solace, I use a grand total of 0 GCD heals (unless you count pre-pull Regens, when not in range to damage yet). Even then, the majority of the Lilies are spent in between pulls. If the tank/dps are REALLY bad, a few GCD heals might be pumped through.
On SGE, absolutely no GCD heals are being used, unless, again, pre-pull Eukrasian Diagnosis / Eukrasian Prognosis counts as a heal. No matter how bad the group, oGCDs cover 100% of the damage.
All I know is that I’ve been having Way More Fun as a healer in EW than I have had in the rest of the game, ever. Don’t know if it’s because of changes in the job or just me getting better at it (probably more the latter).
Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional

Healing is very rewarding in FF by allowing you dps options if you can optimize coverage and clear content quicker. It shows you'vegotten better. Everyone likes a self skillcap gain pick me up

I would disagree with this. Yes, optimizing your healing does let you do more damage. But, the "reward" is the privilege of spamming your 2-3 DPS buttons more

The reward is faster clear time.
If you mean another point that healer's should have a kit like:
Flame shock, earth shock, lightning bolt, chain lightning, lava burst
Or
Sader strike, shock, judgment, consecration, prism, shield of the righteous.
Hell yeaah im for that.
But faster clear times = reward.
In WoW if i was caught dpsing tank would go mongo and pulled til they died.

Eh play AST? I have been a WHM main since 2.0 and love the class, and if it's not due to my static need I would still be maining it, simplicity + raw power what more can one ask for.
But AST is super fun to play. I would argue there is very little "optimization" playing a WHM given how straight forward it is. But AST ... AST feel like playing an actual DPS who can heal, rather than a healer DPSing. (by that I mean in term of mechanic, not the output).

I have been leveling all of the healers. AST, SGE, and WHM ARE 90 and SCH is very close behind. The amount I heal really depends on the party, more so who my tank is (if they properly use cooldowns) or what job they are. Warriors have been my favorite so far. I can help take down large pulls no problem. DRK is by far my least favorite. Oh my gods. Every time I see one in my group I just die a little inside. I don’t know if I’m just getting a bunch of bad ones or what, but gods they give me a hard time.
All in all, I don’t feel like I’m healing more. Only when I have a tank that is made out of wet tissue paper do I feel like that’s the case. All of the healers have felt fine to me. In extremes I only have experience with astro, but I still don’t feel like I’m healing more. If anything I feel like I’ve needed to heal less. At least when paired with my SCH cohealer. Can’t really say much more than that. Also just my experience and not representative of others
I have SGE at close to 80 but had AST and WHM at 80 during ShB. Loved healing on AST. One of my favorite jobs in the game.
I have struggled with SGE. Boss fights are fine and I never do anything but DPS. Large pulls however are scary for me because prior to 78 SGE doesn’t have a regen. There’s one spell that gradually heals over time but it’s all barriers and I’m not used to barrier healing. Things are getting better now that I have the trait to at adds a regen to that AOE barrier, but I’m still shaky.
Seems like the trick is to have a permanent 10% damage reduction on the tank and the only way at this level I know how to do that is to spam Eukrasia Diagnosis and time the other abilities with Addersgall stacks. I’m talking on massive pulls where the tank sprints and pulls everything they possibly can. I love that on AST and it’s a breeze on WHM. But in SGE I’m clenching. Even had a couple wipes.
So I dunno if I’m gonna stick with it. It might get better past 80 when I have more tools.
This is a tank perspective, but healing has seemed less necessary in dungeons. Numerous times I've seen a healer stand in AoE from mobs or mess up a boss mechanic, die, and the party finishes fine without them. It's been so common I've wondered how healers are feeling about the increased tank mitigation + dps support abilities.
I suspect we're dealing more with gear being lower since it's a new expansion and some tanks aren't used to needing to use their mitigation as much.
