If SE can't do anything regarding the physical server infrastructure they definitely have to look into better anti-afk measures. Currently players can probably dodge the afk timer via simple methods.
I would implement something that requires a human to actually think even at the bare minimum of levels to prove they are at their devices.
Currently i'm inhaling a whole lot of copium and i would say 2-3 weeks. BUT, it could potentially last longer. However, i wanna make one thing very clear; this situation can not under any circumstances last for over a month. If it does that would be disastrous and most likely leave the game with borderline irreparable damage and really screw over the game's growth. Imagine if you're a completely new player and everyone is talking about FFXIV so you give it a shot, only to find out (atleast on the EU servers) that the game is literally unplayable from noon until midnight, when most people have the ability to play, for months. Do you think that player would stick around for long? I sure wouldn't when there are so many great games out there to play.
Currently i'm on Twintania, literally the least populated server on the Light data center and definitely one of the smallest EU worlds and between about 3:30 PM until midnight i've yet to see queues lower than 3-6K which basically means that unless you have literally the entire rest of the day to sit in front of your computer and watch the queue, you're not playing because you are guaranteed to get several errors and if you don't log back in immediately you're kicked to the back of the line. Not only that, the queues move at a snail's pace currently. Pretty much anyone who works a standard 9-to-5 job and or has a family basically has zero chance of playing the game in the EU right now, because if my little world has queues like these that means that every other world has it just as bad or way worse.
From a pragmatic and dispassionate viewpoint Square simply has to figure it out, immediately. They have to get new servers ASAP no matter the costs or handicap the game's growth and burn through a whole lot of the good will they've built up. The current situation simply is not sustainable and while it is somewhat understandable due to the current chip shortage, there is a limit to the patience and understanding that you can ask of your paying customers. Personally, i'm not getting worked up over this situation because while it's frustrating there's there's nothing we can do about it other than wait and see. I do have faith that they'll figure it out sooner rather than later but there's no denying that this situation is rather dire.
don't blame the player, blame square. The game is wonderful but slow fix to terrible online feature seems to be a recurence in ffxiv. I mean look at how unhealthy the housing is when it should be instanced out the ass. Instead of allocating more space to it years ago when it was already an issue, they just left it as is and arguably made it worse.
Years ago they weren't needing more servers and the ques were little to non-existence and if there was a que it went fast. The que times didnt pop up till about the start of the year which again that went pretty fast and thats when they stated to look into getting more servers since they were seeing a trend in ques getting long and longer during prime hours and have not been able to get a hold of one as of yet. Also there is instance housing just not the ones you want to be instanceddon't blame the player, blame square. 1-2 months.
This is steam concurrent players around SHB launch, which can be roughly extrapolated out to represent fluctuations in the entire playerbase.
We gotta wait in a queue to play a basically single player game LOL
For a few weeks.
Server ques will be for a bit till new servers however the main issue would die down once those that rush to play to get to end game will die down prob soons or those that got tired and left
