"Population will go down, they can't buy new servers"

I've seen this argument brought up multiple times. That Square Enix can't just buy new servers because "the population will go down after expansion launch".

This is a "self fulfilling prophecy" way of thinking.

If SE buys new servers the population might go down. Or not. Cause the people that played the game could recommend it to their friends and bring over more people. Any investment is a gamble after all. You can win or you can lose.

If SE doesn't buy new servers, the population WILL definitely go down. Because of people who were not able to play leaving for other game where they treat their playerbase better. No investment leads to stagnation and decay.

This is the type of population fluctuation FFXIV has experienced with all of its expansions.

It isn't sensible from a business perspective to buy permanent hardware, particularly when it isn't even available.

A software solution to the queuing issues is the most realistic path at this point, while we wait for the population to fall off as it always does.

More threads = more visibility. This is an issue that should not be covered up just because you are able to play, when millions of players aren't.

As if it's actually that way. We also have several big megathreads, but do they interact with it? No. It's well known they only read/interact with jp forums, so whether we use megathread or not, it won't matter.

While this is always a consideration with every MMO, this is definitively not the reason why they aren't adding more servers at this time, so there's no point in discussing it.
