Trying to get caught up on something I either forgot and missed an explanation on earlier in the game. Why did the Garleans get pushed out of "their ancestral homeland"? Is that propaganda, or did it really happen and why?

They are magically impotent so pretty much every other race could just wipe them out which is why they ended up settling on one of the least hospitable locations there is. That is until they found the use for ceureleum.

Yep. It wasn't until they discovered ceureleum and developed magitek that they became a force to be reckoned with.

the garlean ancestors didnt have the ability to use magic therefor the neighboring nations abused and took advantage of them and drove them out of their furtile lands for their own needs forcing the people north into the frozen wastelands of Ilsabard where the garlean people suffered many hardships, sometime during that era the ascians showed up and pretending to be true garleans emet-selch "discovered" ceruleum and thus was garland transformed into the mighty garlean empire

and the rest we all know this is when the propaganda and brainwashing of the garleans began
