Launcher shuts down when I click play

When I click 'play' I get a pop-up in Japanese and the launcher shuts down.
Have tried:
-reinstalling game
-run as administrator
-turning off the firewall

Everything was fine last night. There have been no changes to my machine today. I can log in and play on my other device (laptop) except I can't actually play on that old scuffed potato.

I got to thinking I had to be doing something different since it was working before. Here's what fixed this.
I had been getting error messages with One Drive active. So instead of pausing it after the first message this time I just decided to turn it off right after logging into my machine. Well, it turns out that One Drive is dealing with the FFXIV cfg files since I installed the game with One Drive on. So the game won't start with it off. (note: I am pretty much a tech idiot and only noticed this by chance. I was going to turn it off again and just happen to notice FFXIV in the files it was working with.)
