Wow! I feel the same about Zenos. I couldn't have said it better than you. I am so, so, SO happy to see that someone else thinks and feels the same as me about Zenos. Do you really think he died?Zenos' mother died, we learned it from The Hunt Begins. "From the beginning, Zenos was alone. His lady mother succumbed to illness shortly after bringing him into the world, and his lord father was seldom present, occupied as he was with his military campaigns and political maneuvering." Anyway, I do not find EW disappointing, I like it more than ShB! I was happy every time Zenos showed up, too bad he didn't have more screentime. That final fight was amazing and I wish I could replay it. A part of me wants him back but an other part thinks he got a satisfying ending.
Other people find Zenos boring but I find his whole being heartbreaking. A force of nature whose only happiness is fighting me because he doesn't know better. He grew up alone, neglected, no one loved him, he was trained to serve the Empire. I admire him for coming back from death and obsessively pursuing that one happy moment just to die again. I think it's beautiful in a sad, twisted way!
I'm not sure if "redemption" would work for Zenos. He doesn't want to become a better person, he just wants to feel that moment of happiness again. I'm glad he decided to help me to get what he wanted and I made him happy in his final moments. But I also wish I could show him that there are many temporary happy moments in life (besides fighting). I wish I could heal his damaged soul. I wish I could go back in time, steal baby Zenos from Varis and raise him with a lot of love.Good night, sweet prince!
"For whom weeps the storm
Her tears on our skin
The days of our years gone
Our souls soaked in sin
These memories ache with the weight of tomorrow"
It's different but still better than ShB. EW was a massive, overwhelming, incredible experience. My soul belongs to Ultima Thule now. Such a dark, obsessive place. And this sky, it's majestic.
We pretty much did though. Elidibus was the heart of Zodiark. Elidibus' side of things IS Zodiarks side of things. It explains it sure but it still feels like a crazy cop-out. This entity thats supposed to be the opposing half of the other main entity is done with less than halfway through the story. Both him and elidibus got basically nothing compared to how much time hydaelyn and venat have gotten. We didn’t even get to hear Zodiark’s side of things at all. It’s just bam, hes dead and that’s that…
I wasn't really disappointed at all. It wasn't perfect but it was very, very good. ShB was was a much more personal, intimate story. EW was much more bombastic, rah-rah, save the (literal) universe.. and it's one that hasn't really ended yet as we will still be tying up loose ends for a while yet. They really are different stories with different feelings and, at least at this point, I wouldn't really say that one was better than the other.
And even Elidibus was short lived. He got what, 2 patches total, and then a small scene this expansion? Compare that to all of the moments we’ve had with Hydaelyn and then Venat. We’ve spoken to Hydaelyn herself and Venat so why didn’t we get the chance to do the same with Zodiark?

Just finished the main story quest. I need time to digest it all, but I quite enjoyed it. The second half I thought was much better than the first. I particularly liked Elpis, and the companionship of Hythlodeus and Emet-Selch. I had a big grin on my face throughout. There were definite pacing issues, and it did drag on in areas, but overall I liked it.
These are just some early thoughts.

I agree on some points OP like Zodiark and Anima. Anima deserved to be a trial by itself and Zodiark could use some more screen exposition.
Overall the characters were treated all right they managed to cover a lot even if I missed Yugiri and Fordola for example. But overall still managed to really enjoy I ended up satisfied with ending.
Brief appearances, he had one in ARR, a couple in HW and a couple in SB. Most of them didn’t even thoroughly address Zodiark though, and my point still stands we’ve convened with both Venat and Hydaelyn, whilst only convening with Elidibus and not Zodiark, and Zodiark being gone about 15 mins into being on the moon and being nothing more than a skin suit in the expansion advertised as ending the hydaelyn and zodiark arc.
The only thing I didn't like was the Final Days part. Nothing about it felt "Final Days"ish. This was the same in ShB where we're told that the world is facing an army of sineaters yet you only see a handful of them in events with the one exception of that duty in Lakeland.
Also I feel like EW suffers from SB syndrome in that it wrapped up a lot of stories way to quickly i.e. Garlemald being just like Ala Mhigo.
