Accompanying NPCs don't ride mounts?

Thought I heard something about those Escort missions where NPC's follow you around and offer additional conversation here or there; where they would ride mounts with you if you mounted up. Or ride in your mount if additional seats were available. Even went and found the bit in Live Letter 67 (at 2:11:35 LL67 )
But that doesn't seem to have made its way into the game, has anyone hear anything else about it?

That's what was said but I couldn't find an escort quest where it would actually work. The most they would is follow at a normal run speed, and that meant I had to keep stopping and starting so they wouldn't fall too far behind.

Someone in one of my linkshells said that those quests were deisgned to intentionally pad the amount of time it would take to finish MSQ. While I don't think that's true they were intentional, it is true that's all they ended up accomplishing for me. I did not enjoy them and they were far too frequent.

EW escort quests were too numerous and too annoying. Just stuff to slow your play down purposely imo.

I came here to ask the same question. I'm spending a lot of time walking around in the open world. Why can't these NPCs ride a chocobo like the rest of us? Estinien even summons a mount at one point...
