Yeah, imagine if the servers were on AWS and we couldn't play right now.
"OMG why didn't SE see that the cloud has faults and they should have their own servers. They just didn't want to spend the money on their own hardware!" Etc, etc.
Very ironic this post is here considering AWS Today.
But just think about it, SE made the FF14 DC for 2.0, in 2013, AWS wasn't exactly insane back then and had a lot of flaws... Azure especially.
You think they're just going to lift and shift their entire infrastructure for an issue that happens once every few years? Login queues are a none issue for the majority of an expansions life cycle... Shadowbringers wasn't bad and you could get on without 2002 (at least EU).
You're basically asking, why didnt they foresee insane success 8 years down the line from an absolute disaster of a legacy, guess they didn't buy a magic 8 ball...
It's probably just not possible.
AWS consists of a set amount of services and if whatever infrastructure you currently have does not look like whats on AWS it cannot be migrated and you have to re-create it for it to fit AWS.
FFIXV is a very very very old game and their infrastructure most likely needs to be rebuilt from scratch if they wanted to have it on AWS.
AWS is not magic it won't solve anything unless the whatever you put there actually works with AWS, and even then its not a guarantee it will fix things.
[EDIT; I'm a software engineer with a AWS Associate Architect Certification]

AWS just crashed today 12/7 Glad they didn't use it!I'm just mentally frazzled after over 7 hours of trying to login now and I can't for the life of me understand why they would turn down and/or not use AWS or Azure as a temporary solution.
Is it pride? Is it not a possibility?
I just see a scenario where a company wouldn't use all available resources to assist their customers and maintain the positive image their brand and game had going into EW's launch.

Damn this OP is salty as hell. It's kind of funny.
I absolutely love how AWS demonstrated today why our lovely OP is so so so very wrong. It isn't pride, it isn't being cheapskates. Something like today is why XIV isn't using AWS, not even for login servers, because if they were.. there wouldn't be a queue.. because it would be down entirely.
