Directx11 error

Still cannot run the game at all in directx11, it dumps direct to the desktop at login. In directx9 I have also crashed 3 times now when teleporting to/from major cities. I've done all the fixes I can find on Reddit and done a full uninstall/delete residual files/full reinstall and the problem persists

Hello everyone, I have the exact same issue as well, since after the Endwalker launch.
The main diffrerence from the opening post is that I have the DX 11 error right after logging in through the game's launcher.
I can say however that I've noticed a few patterns which might be helpful in finding the cause:

1) if I reset the game's system configuration, FF XIV starts windowed without issues; the issues begin whether I switch back to borderless window fullscreen or native fullscreen;
2) the issue usually presents itself after a Windows 10 "hybrid boot" (as you certainly know, Windows 10 by default doesn't reboot fully at each computer startup unless you explicitly reboot). If I do an actual full reboot, the problem disappear at least for some time.
3) it seems that the problem resurfaces whenever in the next playing session after I change graphics settings in the game, things like resolution and/or whether it's native fullscreen, borderless window fullscreen or windowed mode.

Everyone who has this error seems to have AMD GPU, I have 5600 XT and ever since getting this GPU last year I've had constant errors, but the errors have certainly increased this year. Nowadays you can hardly play a day without a single fatal DirectX error. Every other game works fine but FFXIV does not function correctly on AMD GPUs. Driver updates or rollbacks do not help.

I'm experiencing this DirectX issue all the time. Usually happens in dungeons, however, its just happened then while stood in New Gridania while waiting for the levelling roulette.

Most of the times I am finding this happening (while playing WHM) during casts of Holy or Assize.

!! MINOR SPOILERS BELOW !!

Happens regularly on the boss in first dungeon of Endwalker where your hitting that certain shaped object on the raised platform. The explosion at the end of that phase causes the crash.

Second dungeon of Endwalker, second boss, just after the fight starts and the first large aoe lands. Not sure if its the boss mechanic or the Assize that I cast but it crashes every time at this point.

Literally, just crashed me out now at the last boss of Haukke Manor while we were all stood at the door waiting for one of the other group members to catch up. Playing Red Mage.

This is a client side issue, the problem is that SE has to fix it, it's been going on for over 5 years and they have NEVER responded to the issue apart from automatic replies that close the threads with no help. What they should do is scrap the DX11 entirely and either update the client to DX12 or even Vulkan. The DX error overall is a red herring, it's almost never has anything to do with the CPU or the GPU but some other peripheral like wireless mice, keyboards, headphones, USB Hubs, and more. For me I removed almost all crashes by just having a mouse, keyboard and microphone connected, no other devices and it started to be a lot more stable, not completely but much more stable. The game has some conflict with drivers, peripherals, monitors, and so on and the error that shows up is a DX11 error. It's not that DX11 causes the crash, it's that DX11 is affected by the crash. And SE needs to get this through their thick skulls that it needs to be looked at! They've ignored the issue for years!

Part of the problem is that, even within this thread, you can tell these are probably different issues causing the same error message. I definitely agree that some seem to be connected to random peripherals, which I find just weird that they can hard crash a game with this big of a development team behind it. For example, my crash is caused simply by having "Headset (Arctis 7 Chat)" as my audio source (but mine hard crashes right at launch). Every other audio source, including "Headphones (Arctis 7 Game)" which literally is the same headset, work with no problem.

In addition, that same audio source works without issue for at least 10 other games that I have played over the last year or so.

Yeah, I'm not saying it isn't weird, it's something that SE needs to fix because the game shouldn't crash like this. I had a corsair MMO mouse that crashed the game before this, now I have a razer and it hasn't crashed with that mouse so far. But the error I got was still DX11 error which makes absolutely no sense. The issue happens client-side, but it's the FF14 client that has issues. I have 0 crashes on my computer apart from FF14 that crash all the time if I have too many peripherals connected. I even had crashes when using VoiceMeter, which again shows that the game has audio issues, this can also be seen if you change the audio device while the game is running, the client is unable to update the audio device. EVERY other game I know can do that, but not this client. If I use the default speaker as output and connect my wireless headphones I have to restart the client for them to work, that's just amateurish programming. I know the client is a potato client, but still, it REALLY needs an update, not only serverside but also clientside.

FYI I had the errors (ntdll.dll, dx11xyz.dll, etc.) right away on launch... couldn't even get to character selection. Switched audio sources and bam I go straight in no errors. Did it twice to confirm.

The audio source that crashes is labeled "Headset Earphone (Arctis 7 Chat)". If I switch to just my monitor audio, no problems. Obviously this is a SteelSeries Arctis 7 headset, and interestingly there's also a different "Headphones (Arctis 7 Game)" choice they make available. This one DOES NOT crash the game.

So, if you're having this issue (especially if it's right after launch like mine) try changing around your audio source.
