Welcome to Eorzea, OP! No, this is not at all usual. December 3rd was the start of 'early access' for the new EndWalker expansion. Tomorrow December 7th is the 'Official' launch. it will slowly get better, as people finish the story and go on to other things. FFXIV has had a huge surge of new players in the last few months, people who haven't played in quite some time also coming back for the new expansion - crazy days!
