Didn't AWS also get an outage like yesterday? XD

I'm sure any minute now SE, in the middle of their board meeting are going to throw live to random Dave on the forums so he can educate them on how to solve their infrastructure problems.
Well given the shitty situation this is, it’s a bit bold to suggest that SE is competent when it comes to hosting…

I can only imagine how incompetent a company has to be to run not one but two MMO's so successfully for nearly 2 decades. I'm surprised they didn't ask to forum for help years ago.
Creating, testing and deploying a cloud integration of their existing services would likely take weeks or months, and be extremely costly, all to save just a few days of player discomfort.
Migrating an existing service to the cloud isn't a simple matter; There are entire businesses that exist solely to help other businesses with cloud migration, as it can take a substantial amount of specialized expertise. SE has been pretty adamant in the past about having full control over their physical systems, so it's unlikely they have some pre-existing cloud solution ready to go when they snap their fingers.
There's no doubt SE messed up here, but the nature of the problem is more related to how their queuing system was created. This is the angle they're likely working from, as it's the most immediate to them. Deploying solutions to a system as large as an MMO with millions of users takes time, particularly when the nature of the problem seems to be difficult for them to test outside of their production enviornment.
You clearly don’t know anything about cloud computing. This isn’t a realistic solution.

That would be your definition of the word competent. I get it, the launch has had some serious problems, while it's not fun for anyone it's also not without precedent as many many game launches have similar issues.
I am not a server engineer however i have played video games since long before online gaming was even a thing, this is not my first rodeo. It's quite obvious to me that these problem happen because if a company provides a server infrastructure so big that everyone has a flawless experience when the servers are at their absolute maximum stress (launch week) then the company is losing serious money for every other week of the games life.
Your position seems to be that SE are simply incompetent, this is a position fundamentaly at odds with the reality of the fact that we are talking about a company that successsfully run not one but two MMO's for 20 years. Nobody should be taken seriously if they suggested that Rolls Royce don't know what they are doing if an engine goes bang, that would be patently absurd.
Your position is clearly so extreme, agenda driven and bias that at no point should it be taken seriously.
I hope that clears up my confusion.
