If I pay you to bring me 5 apples tomorrow and you don't bring them, but then the day after that you come and give me "5 free apples in compensation":
It is NOT free.
It's what I've already paid for and you failed to deliver on the agreed terms.
Please do not embelish facts and reality with pleasant sounding words.
The correct way to make the announcement would have been "We are reimbursing you 7 days of playtime from your subscription. We might reimburse more days at a later date if the problem persists".
