    Random disconnects (Error 90002)

This is not directly related to Endwalker. I've been having these random disconnections in and out of duties for almost three weeks now.

I had a suspicion it could be my ISP, so I contacted them. They did improve things judging by my much improved stability with pretty much everything but Final Fantasy XIV, but nothing changed regarding the random disconnections.

Without the long queues it's not like I can't just get back 1 or 2 mins later... It's still a big annoyance I'd like to fix.

What else could I do? Reinstall the game? I don't want to pay for a VPN, specially if I'm not sure that will fix my problem.

    Greetings fellow Eorzean,

We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced with server congestion on Final Fantasy XIV. Due to the recent early access period for Endwalker and the upcoming full release, we are experiencing an extremely high surge in player base which may result in long queue times and possible connection based errors. We are aware of this inconvenience and have addressed it in the following Lodestone post:

    https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...9cad782363f25b

We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support forums!

Thanks for the response, but my issue is strictly with eror 90002 (Losing connection with the server after already being logged in), which isn't directly addressed in the post and was being experienced two weeks prior to Endwalker's early access launch.

As an update I just want to add that I tried pinging the servers and I get 0 packet loss, if pinging through CMD is trustworthy.

I deal with the same issues and from what I can tell its a combination of bad routing and incompetent design. The way it seems to work is if you get any packet loss the server instantly drops your connection. Basically there is no buffer. Most online games / services you won't even notice a couple of packets failing to travel because they are designed by people who understand the imperfect nature of networks and that packet loss happens, either due to bad nodes or a hiccup in the actual network connection. It also seems like this issue gets worse the heavier the load is on the servers. Say 2 years ago I didn't have any of these issues with the exact same connection at the exact same location. Ever since the game started getting regular queues the 90k errors have gotten more frequent and ultimately became unbearable with the release of the expansion and 10k people queues on the EU.

Honestly the best advice I can give you is to buy a VPN if you really want to play and pray. I'm sure most of them offer a money back guarantee. I will never pay for a VPN to play this game personally as I don't deem it worth it, but its worth a shot. Since it seems to be a routing issue combined with idiotic zero tolerance for packet loss in an online service SE has implemented.

VPN didn't seem to have solved it. I tried the ones people usually recommend. In fact I was getting latency issues.

VPNs are hit or miss with problems like these.

Hold on, you mean there is NO buffer for packet loss? I mean it would make sense that there isn't considering the number of 90k errors people are beginning to get today with the loads being so much higher. That is bad design for sure because packet loss is a natural part of being on the internet but the connection should never flat out be dropped like that.
