i'm sorry, but i seem to recall the the original 5 nm's are open world and have worked fine since launch. the strongholds are also open world and have worked perfectly fine. that's my point. things have been in game open world and has been shown it does work fine.

i'm not asking for all open world, but would love to see a mix of both instanced and open world content. it's already been proven in this game that the game cannot handle open world content is a LIE.

Funny timing that I read this post tonight...

WoW will have cross-server zones implemented. Essentially, they're taking the concepts of cross-server instancing and bringing it out into shared, non-instanced world zones, mixed in with what sounds like their phasing technology, based on the description they give. Very interesting idea.

They're keeping the system limited to groups of servers, and it seems like it'll be utilized in lower level and/or lower populated zones. In any case, it sorta blurs the line of what a "separate server" means.

Things like hamlet defense, which could have been much larger in scale if it weren't for crystal tools only displaying 40 PC/NPC/Objects on screen at a time, suffer from a client side limitation more than they do a server side limitation. Hamlet defense is similar to campaign in FFXI but is forced to be instanced due to these limitations rather than a large scale open world battle.

I thought it was pretty obvious why hamlet defense was instanced even though it's content that would make better sense in the open world.

Instanced Boss Fights: Sometimes. We have a good system going now with the primals, yet open world "HNMs" would also be welcome.

Instanced Battles/Events: No. No no. It makes it even harder for players to just pop in and enjoy. If this game is to be easily accessible, it's completely backwards to make content like this 8 person party only. We should be able to "party up" for things like this but also be able to take part solo. Campaign and Besieged were good examples of this from FFXI, and the Imperial Assault events are a good example of this that we have in this game now. Hamlet Defense is a BAD example of this.

What do medals even mean anyway?
    God yes...a lot of the FFXI supports don't realize just how much content in FFXI was instanced>.>;

I seriously think we'll hear a lot less about complaints if SE wasn't giving us half-assed content to tide us over to 2.0

But when we get some real content, instanced or not, SE needs to be clever with it, no more of this speed run bullshit>.>

However if HNM's were open world, SE really needs to implement them carefully. A simple pop spot like in FFXI is simply a horrid idea. I will give it to them tho, they started getting creative with HNM's later down the line. HNM's like Ixion, That sandworm thing, Turul(not really a HNM's but a good concept none the less) were steps into the right direction. HNM's that weren't static, Ixion popped in multiple zones, and Turul roamed around a zone. They just didn't stay in one spot I think that's the point I'm driving it. You actually would have to look for them lol

I greatly prefer instances. I don't like competing for camps, farming, etc. All that does is lowers the chance that I get the item I want, especially if I happen to lag for a moment. I also don't like waiting around in town to see a shout - much prefer to join a queue by myself or with friends and then enter the instance and start the fun in under 10 minutes as opposed to nearly an hour.

Although at this point we also have to remember that originally even FFXI was mostly instances (BCNMs) at the start, then came the open-world content like sky and sea which brought a lot of competition, claimbots etc.

I feel instances would get rid of a lot of the frustrations that open-world content brings. Healthy competition is all well and good but I'd personally rather working together with a team to get a reward (or chance of a reward) and leave it in the hands of luck instead of whose PC is faster or whose bot is better programmed.

Do you realize that people had characters with bots in every zone that Ixion and Sandworm popped in that would spam the LS chat that it popped. So the people who got them most were the ones that cheated.

well if they want to keep "most people" they need some of everything. not everyone wants to do just boss fights or run around in a little cave all day to get equipment you dont need, since you did the instance without it.

look at newer games like tera they have open world & instances plus pvp, big seamless world. next year elder scrolls online is going more of the real MMO with public dungeons there even going to use instances. if ffxiv is going mostly instances its pertty much doomed when theres already games with everything and can handle mass numbers of people at any given moment. and SE is gonna stay with one wow gimick. every heavily instanced game died or went F2P is something to think about.

if they do limit them selfs there just being stubborn and want to keep people away. we'll find out in january when 2.0 is 100% live.

p.s people are scared of challenges & scared competition and are anti social.

I've almost giving up and asking SE to stop instancing things. I'll wait for 2.0 to ask for that again when we might have a server that is capable of displaying the population of a MMO game.

Seriously SE I don't care about your primal fights, raids, and all that crap. What I do want is a world that I can explore on my own, with my friends, go to unknown corners for no reason at all and find amazing things! I don't want a single path to the goal line, I don't want floating (!)'s to guide my way. I don't want a time limit in the cave I'm exploring, and I don't want to have all the cool stuff in the game barred behind a instanced gate.

You can give people instanced content all you want, but give the people who want something else a bone to chew on...please?

So did SE delete my post about WoW's new Cross server zone technology .. lol

Guess they didn't want it to be seen in case people start asking for that.
