DirectX 11 crash issue

DirectX Error 11000002
Even had in the past 1 or 2 of the other DirectX Errors and sound related as well.

So I used to play FFXIV on my old PC which now has been reinstalled and given to my Girlfriend which runs perfectly fine, earlier this year in Jan 2021.
While I use my new PC which runs fine for every other game, yet FFXIV at random times like once a day or more, or could happen once during a week.

It also happened to stop for over a month or 2 and then when I mentioned it to a friend, the next day it crashed like wtf.

I've tried multiple solutions that has been mentioned on Forums and Google of which none are helping, while other solutions that were mentioned are not solutions such as underclocking the GPU of which not everyone knows how to do this and should not be considered a solution.

There are a number of solutions I'm willing to do to fix this but with all the info online that I can find there are other so called "solutions" I refuse to do as they have nothing to do with this.

Simply put from what I can see via searching and the amount of Topics regarding this and similar Errors, the issue is between FFXIV and DirectX themselfs and not the users.

So I would like to hear or see something from FFXIV about this issue and what they intend to do as this has gone on for long enough.

Regarding the current situation with the login queues due to Endwalker it is so "insert bad words here" annoying to be playing the game and randomly have this Error kick you and force you to rejoin the 6000+ or 9000+ login queue if you want to continue, oh then don't forget the 2002 Error during login queue which could end up putting you right at the end again.

Please can you do something about this issue and stop pushing users to fix your problem for you.

They won't help you. Devs are ignoring this issue completely, I've been trying to fix it since April.

Same issue here, scoured the internet and tried out pretty much all the fixes out there including:

- underclocking/volting
- driver versions
- ram changes / psu changes

Eventually binned the 6900 XT and went back to trusty NVIDIA 1070 I still had laying around. Conclusion from the past years seems like it's an AMD driver related issue conflicting with something of certain FFXIV patches.
If you enjoy playing final fantasy XIV in particular, just avoid AMD cards. For everything else it works great sadly.

Bit of a late respone but It's not just AMD it happens with Nvidia as well, this issue has been mentioned many times. Regardless of if I like FFXIV I won't bin my 6900XT I spent so much time getting in early 2021 and cost me £1400 and is used for lots of other games. This is a problem for Square Enix/DirectX to fix and not throw the problem on players to fix it for them.

Wrong, this is an issue with the game, these crashes come from a bad client conflicting with people's hardware, not that the hardware is broken. Going back to older drivers and changing bios settings is NOT a solution.

That's not how any of this works, sorry to rain on your misinformation but i have the benefit of coming from both hardware and software support and application development.

FFXIV has no crashing or stability issues on computers that don't already have an underlying fault or configuration problem, and i know for a fact that a good portion of end users have been running a broken as such machine from the day they received it through the endless dump files and machines i've had the horror of diagnosing.

I bet you were one of the folk that believed New World was actually causing 3090's to die (when it was a hardware flaw the whole time)

Legitimate software issues are hardware agnostic (atleast between the same parts, settings and drivers), they don't affect some but not others.

Many cases that turn up here aren't even GFX related, a broken sound driver can cause the game to throw a fatal directx error just because it has resulted in the Audio Device Graph service restarting to resolve an endpoint hang.

The way an application can respond to a graphics driver issue is also something to think about. There are other games that can deal with a driver reset without crashing to desktop. FFXIV would greatly benefit from this sort of functionality, as it would at least keep people from being crashed out and dumped to the front of the login queue.

Also while it's true that SE can do nothing to fix bad hardware, they certainly can (and do) things to make their game more resilient to dealing with said bad hardware. As a programmer myself, just because an issue is the user's fault doesn't mean I don't do my darndest to make the software work better for their situation to avoid them getting into that bad state to begin with.

Anyway, we're all on the same side here, posting the issues, trying to figure out the cause, and resolving it. And failing that, giving SE as much info they can to look for patterns they can work with to improve things in general where possible. Let's not jump on each other in anger.

With that said, I have been able to reproduce the DirectX 11 crashes whenever a windows notification pops up while having twitch going on another monitor. The game crashes to the familiar 90002 error, the driver resets, and the twitch playback actually stops playing. This is on Windows 11, latest updates, Radeon 5700 XT with drivers that came out yesterday (though it's been happening on the previous drivers as well). It honestly just seems to be that FFXIV is super fragile to driver related resets. The only way I can ensure I don't run into issues during a session is to run only one monitor and have no other apps running while playing the game. I mean that's great and it works, but it's awful inconvenient to not be able to do any sort of chat or other things on my PC while playing.

Thanks for the super detailed reply and the info about the 21.10.1+ drivers. I'll have to try dropping to some lower drivers if my issues come back....which I say because...

I needed to come back and point out a dumb thing I noticed and resolved and point it out incase it helps anyone else. I accidentally bumped my computer case and noticed a blue LED on my video card turn red for a second and then go back to blue. After jostling the PCIe power cord to the GPU a bit, I noticed it would go back and forth from red to blue. So I reseated the connector and ensured moving the cord no longer caused the LED to change colors. Then I had to restart the PC and re-enable the video card (windows + the AMD driver doesn't like the video card randomly losing its power, so it had marked it as disabled). And voila, video and such works much better on my second monitor now. So yeah, TLR, make sure the power cords to your video card are properly seated, sometimes they seem like they are, but actually aren't.
