I recently, foolishly, discarded three meteorite chunks for the Manderville weapons, worth 1500 tomestones of Astronomy. It was an honest mistake made as I was discarding excess Omicron daily materials from my bags. It represents a few hours of work over a couple of weeks and is by no means the end of the world.

But item recovery is a thing, is it not?

Only if you like to gamble.

I have 900 days subscribed in FFXIV - just about three years of on and off play since 2.0. I will be playing this game for many years to come if the quality remains consistent or continues to improve as it has. For those who are not in the know, you are entitled to one (1) and ONLY one (1) item recovery request EVER per account. It doesn't matter if you've had an unbroken subscription since 1.0. It doesn't matter if it's been five years since the last one.

You get one, and that's it.

I understand the general idea is to prevent the GMs from being inundated by requests like these, but when FF's greatest competitor has a generous system for item recovery that you can use conveniently through a web browser to undo your foolish mistakes, the sting of losing those 1500 tomestones worth of rocks and the associated Manderville weapon is especially frustrating.

Please consider amending this policy. One item recovery per X days subscribed, or X time elapsed, is a much fairer system. Even if you set it to a year, which is still incredibly restrictive, that would at least make players feel like they can use this service without potentially shooting themselves in the foot at some undetermined time years down the road.

I abandoned my helpdesk ticket after maybe the 4th time of being reminded that this is my ONE AND ONLY recovery, because 1500 tomestones certainly isn't worth the opportunity cost. I am very frustrated that I had to.
