The Scions don't have your fancy WoL powers, and they're able to keep up with you.
There are Garleans like Lucia and Gaius who can't even use magic that can keep up with the WoL, even without Magitek.
But can they really keep up? We're the ones who's dealing with the hardest fights while Scions are out or busy with doing something else. Of course I'm not saying they don't deserve the praise for being always there for us and supporting us, but we and them are not on the same level.
It's not a difference between the WoL and "regular people", it the difference between the WoL and a completely inexperienced person. A difference of your level 83 powers to a level 1.
We've come a long way from level 1 to 83. We gained power. Also, in that mission we are operating a Garlean soldier. It's not an inexperienced person, well at least in my book.

This. The Scions for the most part cannot keep up with us nor are on our level, and this becomes apparent if you do Trusts. Why they don't AoE, why they don't attack while moving, why they wait for an attack to go through before going back, why they have so few skills/spells/abilities, there's a reason other than a technical standpoint. Because they themselves are already pushing themselves to the limit fighting a single enemy, dodging attacks, and have a limited amount of moves that their bodies can use at any given situation because any more might push their bodies too much. Estinien and G'raha Tia are the only two Trusts who have actually been able to transcend their limits to a degree, through Estinien's temporary fusion with Nidhogg and G'raha Tia's century of knowledge and experience as the Exarch, and are actually closer to our level than the others.

This leans a lot on gameplay inconsistencies. What makes trusts more indicative of the other Scions abilities than duties or cutscenes where they can get away with pulling room clearing abilities out of nowhere that honestly embarrass the skills of the jobs we get to play as the WoL? I'll not get specific, but it surely doesn't take much thinking to remember an instance when we had to buy time for someone to charge an attack that destroyed everything on the battlefield. Sometimes they don't even need us as a distraction and the power gets used to save us. It happens all the time in FF14.

And this is a forum. We're here to discuss aren't we? If no one wanted to talk what purpose would this site serve?

It's not just about levels of powers. It's the whole quest.

It comes out of nowhere and is just forced on you.
The whole thing what I've seen of it is just bad. The writing is bad. The gameplay is bad. The execution of the quest is bad.

I just want the maintenance to finish so I can go finish the quest and proceed to forget about this little filler arc until I have to do it again on another character, I would actually pay money for a 6.0 story skip to not have to do this quest again.

I'm going to disagree with you there. I think it was great. As others said, it makes you feel helpless. It's like with Marvel's "Who are you without your suit?" - "If you're nothing without your suit - you shouldn't have it" but with blessing instead.
Also you kinda need to be immersed with the story to understand the atmosphere. Ofc it's fine if you don't like it. It's just I feel like you focus on how annoying the duty is, instead of what's happening around you there.

Yes, that's what they were going for. The feeling of helplessness, in a form not your own. Unfortunately, even if I was playing my WoL, I'd be striving to avoid every single enemy, just as the mission states, but obviously not for the reason of "helplessness". You have to run back and forth, from one side to the other, and if you didn't know to go the "right" way, first, you may be running around and around, due to it having to be done in a specific order.

I actually got lost there and just started walking around collecting every shiny I could see, so eventually when I found my way out, I already had all needed items

The healing potions aren't needed, it's the fuel tank or whatever, as I recall, and you can't pick that up until you talk to the pilot.
