I waited two hours to go from about 3k start, down to 800, to nearly 6000. I was almost logged in. This is Raubahn savage levels of fun.

Idk if people remember but it was the same at the beginning of Shadowbringers. Obviously the changes they made then were adequate but no one could have predicted the influx of players from other game to this extent. Give it time and patience, the game will be playable once a viable solution can be found.
Not being able to get in during a launch/early access of an expansion isn't uncommon for many MMOs.
In fact, it's to be expected.
And people still want to take out payed time off from work for this.
Which is why others tend to suggest not to take time off at launch day as it will most likely always come with it's share of hickups.
I think the queue system just died, at least for leviathan. I went from 5000 to 1 and now get a world is full error, no queue.
I have to agree. The long que was to be expected and I don't mind waiting to get past it, but the constant errors and losing your spot in the que is frustrating. Waiting 8 hours and longer to actually be able to play the game might work on weekends, but on normal weekdays, after work, it's simply impossible.
yeah so I could do something else and don't have to stand still in front for when a 2002 will hapen
I've expected this since the Make it Rain campaign and I got an error telling me I couldn't teleport to the Gold Saucer because the area was full.
I love that people are discovering the game, but it definitely came with a downside this time. The situation is unfortunate but there's definitely bigger problems in the world. I'm just vibin' and shiny hunting in BDSP.
So, I just logged into the Japanese server group and had no problem creating a new character, its like 6 am there. Suppose that's why they're not suffering with these conditions? I just came back and tried Leviathan, Lamia and Jenova servers (I have characters on those). Back to the que for early access. Not one of them are under 4k ques.

INTRODUCING: "FINAL FANTASY MXVII: A REALM UNAVAILABLE" COMING SOON TO A PLAYSTATION CONSOLE OR WINDOWS PC...WELL..maybe..or..maybe not...then again maybe
That's right! Stop with the need to be heard! Your voice doesn't matter. Everything is fine and your critics should be silenced!
I can not agree with those who say "I can wait" because most of us work and have very limited time when they can log in.
Since the patch, I was not able to log in at all. Best place in queue I got was 7300, then I decided it's not worth it.
If I pay for a service, I expect it to be available. Easy as this.
Now, one can start discussing with "but it's a new patch", "in a month it will be back to normal" or "nobody could have anticipated this many players". Those simply didn't play the game before (yes, I'm pointing at the responsible people from Square Enix).
I really only want to point out things, not saying how bad everything is. I'm happy with this game and want to to continue being good, that is the reason I'm being rough now.
Since I started playing, I could rarely log in without waiting in a queue. Everyone should have known already how tight the capabilities of the available servers were even before the patch. And I'm sure, there were competent developers telling their managers this will happen.
As I see it now, somebody decided to give it a try and see how it goes in a week or two. "Maybe we won't need extra resources".
Do I have to remind you on the best example (World of Crapcraft), that messed with players too often?
What was so difficult about making a new server available for early access only players to try? Now the whole (paying) community is upset, inclding the early access players who are also stuck in the queue.
What was so difficult with opening a new server for each region, knowing exactly that it will be needed with (as Square Enix doesn't forget to advertise) raising player numbers?
Did anyone even look at the numbers (at even make statistics) on this?
And, I'm sorry to say this, a letter with apologies from the boss for the "inconvenience" seemed to me personally like a slap in the face to every player. The least they can do is plan such patch days and simulate them as much as possible. In this case, making a poll a month in advance could have shown some insights in what would happen. Also, knowing the sales numbers on the new expansion were quite helpful.
Anyway, I'm not a forum troll. But I really like this game and it's community. And I really hope the Square Enix stakeholders, managers and what not do not do the same mistake as the former "king of MMO" company.
You have something really good here and please... Don't mess with the players.
