YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. EVERYONE WHO CANT RECIEVE THE SERVICE SHOULD REQUEST A REFUND AND THEN DISPUTE THE CHARGE IF THE COMPANY REFUSES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! YOU DONT SELL A PRODUCT YOU CANT PROVIDE!!!!

That's what they said, yes, though they recognised in advance that the population of the North American servers would grow over time and took steps to future proof those servers. The same thing should have done for the European datacentre in order to account for sudden population bursts. They've already released an official statement saying that they would have liked to add additional servers for this but due to the global superconductor shortage, they couldn't procure the necessary equipment. This is only the first weekend. It will lighten up as people progress farther/the newness dies down some. The huge influx of players from other games in addition to returning players that haven't played since they finished the last Shadowbringers patch also account for a large part of the queue.
So why do they sell licenses for a product they cannot support? They are willing to take our money but not provide access?
I logged in this morning at 10 am with a queue of 55. My friend logged in just fine yesterday at 11 pm. So I guess its about trying to play early or late in the day. Which I know isn’t optimal, but it’s something… The long queues just means the game is very popular and there’s lots of people playing. That’s a good thing!
Well I'm glad at least some people are getting their money's worth... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯I logged in this morning at 10 am with a queue of 55. My friend logged in just fine yesterday at 11 pm. I guess the playerbase got a whole lot bigger than they thought, but the number of pre-sales should of given an idea what to expect and prepare for, any worries they should have restricted pre sales
Personally not been able to play at all yet, spent multiple hours in login queues only to have them disconnect after hours of waiting due to some server error.
I guess they are doing the best to try and help but paying for a service and not receiving it at all is not good, leaves me actually wishing I had not bothered now, I was so looking forward to playing but reality seems it would've been better to wait a month
i was among the lucky ones hitting the launch button yesterday at 9 AM getting itnto the game after 30 minutes and having a blast for 12 hours straight. BUT.. TODAY ,its literally IMPOSSIBLE to use the product i paid for. Theres no word of compensation to players, the pre order money was taken by Squeenix well aware that they wouldnt be able to provide an adequate or barely acceptable experience due to their server capacity and the fact that they do not DISABLE free user accounts (including thosuands of bots1!!) from congesting the queue, the "priority" system is clearly NOT working, also if it would work it is not the adequate measure in such a state of emergency. The adequate measure would be NOT allowing free accounts to login at all for the time being. "Semi Conductor" shortage has been going on for 2 years nearly, theres NO excuse for the lack of pre planning while at the same time OVER selling and over booking your servers with pre orders. I am furious right now that theres not even e mitigation process for being removed from the queue with a 2002 error and the launcher closing immedieatly. This is BAD CODING, lack of care and simply insultingly disrespectful to the paying customer.
EdIT : EIGHT HOURS OF LOGIN ATTEMPTS all followed be 2002 after a random amount of time, the worst was 3800 queue and getting 2002 at position 16 ! Finally at around 20:30 PM after this ordeal i was able to play the game...and literally had almost all life sucked out of me from having to manually reconnect,, enter my OTP and having this dogsh. launcher crap all over me.

So ask for a refund.
It's not about the money, Its the principle. Yoshi P is not to blame, their marketing division is. They promised more copies than they could give out and probably lied about the numbers to Yoshi P. Corporate greed is the real problem here.
