I would say a separate part of the forums should be open to them but the main part should be closed.

We should probably stress that main forum users shouldn't be allowed access to the Welcome Back Campaign section either.
We don't need flame wars. What we can have our own views as to their reactions, but we shouldn't be such to interrupt them from their own feedback.
That's what would happen if there were any mixing done here.
I'd also say servay them.
Again, its common sense. Never did i say better suggestions are guaranteed...but at least you know the ppl making them have something at stake. Idk why youre opposed to separate forums...the point is feedback yes? Even an exit poll would be fine with no forum access at all. Point is you need to separate customers from paying customers. Every company on the planet does this...its basic common sense. Mixing the two could tip the balance in places it wouldn't normally go...except a good chunk of the players arent coming back. This is not a desirable outcome..as it can alienate the majority of your paying customers.
All im saying is keep em separate. The is regular business practice..even social practice. You dont let outsiders stay in your house and vote on family matters, financial decisions, etc. The reasons are obvious...they have to take no responsibility for what they say cuz its not their money or family. Common sense. You might give them an ear but both parties are aware it holds no weight, and you are just being open to outside opinion. Common practice is common.
I think being able to hear their opinions would be great for the dev team. even if some of it is negative it should be heard(im not talking about trolling negativity.) but we need to hear what they like and don't like. and one thing bad about this forum is if you voice your opinion about something you don't like you get flamed. criticism can help make the game better you know

Nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!! Not freedom of speech!!! How will we suriiiiivvvve?!!!!

I just believe they need a clearer sounding board, and better room to discuss between themselves the issues they run into.
ESPECIALLY issues that we could solve for them.
Random example:If they're discussing issues like where to find certain NMs for quest and the difficult of that when you do not have word of mouth, and we cut that conversation short by handing them the answers, SE's lost the feedback that they could refine the questing system a touch.
Giving them their own little place to commune gives SE a unique sort of perspective of how new or returning players could view their game without hand-holding or debate from the loyal base. I think that's something the Developers deserve to be able to study without interruption.
If they want to talk with other active players, they could always go to other community sites like Zam, goodness knows they could use the traffic.
I'm all for letting people during the Welcome Back campaign be able to post about what they like or dislike. Or to have a prepared Player Poll for those who played during the time. (So they don't have to deal with the idiocy of this forum)
It would give Square Enix good feedback on the quality of what they have been doing up to this point. As well as knowing what they would do (and avoid) for 2.0. The idea is to get more people to play... not scare them off by ignoring them.
I think it is a good idea to give welcome-back players their own section on forums.
I am seriously going to beat you until battle tanks pull us apart.
