Yes it's a bit a letdown, but they're doing what they can with the engine. Would you really be having any fun when only 40 PCs/NPCs are being drawn at a time? Would that really satisfy your large scale battle desires?

You do grasp the concept that not everything is an either or, right? It is possible for something to not be the "best thang evah!" but still not be "totally failed us! <nerd rage!!!!>" Get a freaking grip.
