You say "stop" like it's a recurring thing that they invent races like this, when it's entirely Viera-specific. And it is part of their culture to often change names when they change status.

Also, any "giving up of culture" happened prior to the beginning of the game – voluntary or forced is up to your imagination, but it wasn't because they were called to be the WoL but upon setting out to be a nameless adventurer doing odd jobs.

Also, the Viera abandoning their culture and forest name upon leaving isn't a thing FF XIV invented. It had been that way in FF XII, where Viera appeared the second time, but first time with Lore (FFTA didn't give them much Lore).

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

.....was it? I'm pretty sure not. Not their names, at least. XIV claims Fran is her city name, but in XII both Mjrn and Jote use Fran, which implies it's her "forest" name. Ktjn and Krjn also share a theme naming and speak of one another without seeing each other since Krjn left the woods, which also implies those are their actual names. They didn't have last names, but nobody except the nobility does. In fact, the only character in XII who is noted to have changed names is Ffamran Mid Bunansa, aka Balthier (and Gabranth, both of them).

So, leaving their culture, yes, kinda; though Relj specifically sets out to compare hers with the Humes and initially finds the Hume conflict wanting. Leaving their names? Nope, not said in the game. Nothing in XII even mentioned city or forest names.

Okay, my mistake. Viera are the first race to have this little eccentricity added to their own lore. Be that as it may, it is rather irksome that I can't just go with lore-appropriate designations that Square-Enix picks for me when I use that option in the character selection menu. That's all I'm saying.

You could technically get away with never giving up the forest name if you wanted. My Viera, for example, was taken to Eorzea by his adult mentor early in his training to be a wood warder. Said mentor told him to just keep doing what he'd been shown so far and promptly ditched him in the forests of The Black Shroud to go be an adventurer. So my Viera continues to use his forest name while trying to protect (or rather hoard) the little sliver of forest he was told to.

Yeah, but the jungle Viera are SOL in that regard

Mine is a Golmore Viera, a Rava. He's also extremely naive and impressionable. As far as he's aware, his mentor didn't do anything wrong by removing the both of them from Golmore. They left because... important reasons! It may be against the Green Word to leave Golmore but clearly they were allowed to do so, otherwise they wouldn't have left! So it's okay!

That is what he'd tell you anyway, and he eagerly awaits the chance to go back home because he thinks everything is just peachy. All in all, it depends upon your own personal story. For whatever reason maybe your (or anyone else's Rava) elected not to give up their forest name. We have outlines of what typically happens in Viera culture but that doesn't mean you have to adhere to it perfectly or else.
