Currently, it is EW early access launch, so a lot of server are too full to the point they cannot accept any more entry. So you either persistently try to hit the button till it works, or just wait till a less-prime time where people go to sleep.

I would try very early morning or around 11pm at night. Or during none prime time hours.

A concrete answer, what you did wrong was not being in your home server when the log in servers are beyond overloaded. Perhaps try again during down time?

You know how access to a server works, this is to be expected.

It's full, you don't get in.
Early access to a highly anticipated game? Well, there you go...
You're going to be unfortunately homeless until the hype dies down.

Or you can also connect at 5am (Paris time), I had a queue of exactly 2 seconds.
And now I'm going to be on Twitch and the forums for 2 hours for the queue xD...
