While I've generally been against any implementation of an AH in FFXIV, this version is one that I can fully endorse. It serves the purpose of being an actual auction system, without either hampering the market wards or introducing a glorified NPC merchant, which are my two big problems with the standard auction house systems you see in MMOs.
