If you're going to have this extreme whinge about getting "the product" instead of being understanding, then you really aught to read the Terms of Service before purchasing. You think they don't cover technical and maintenance downtime there? This is your own fault

Even so the very gracious support team will very often provide you a refund if you file a cancel and refund request

I BET you the ones who are taking up for Square in this garbage launch are the people who actually got to play. I havent been able to play AT ALL. By the time I was able to get on last night it was late and I was tired and went to bed.
Its very simple...you sell a service and then arent able to provide the service you refund your customer. That is simple common courtesy. And I have read the ToS and NO WHERE does it say I agree to being without service for extended periods of time with no communication on when I can get back on and still pay for nothing.

I was all excited to play the new expac and now I keep getting the lobby error. This is NOT right. DONT SELL MORE COPIES THAN YOU CAN SUPPORT SQUARE. I would have rather it said the game is full and not for sell for a period of time than to pay my money then not be able to play at all.
I want a refund of my subscription if I cant play the game!

ok you want 50 cents? 1 dollar refunded to you because you couldn't play for 1 or 2 days? sure show me the proof you were awake the full 24 or 48 hours, did not play the game atleast one second during that 24 or 48 hours i'll send you that money myself..... oh yea you can't be doing anything but trying to play either, not even splitting your time posting here... oh yea so you did post here thus you could do something other than play the game without complaining about the time you're not playing.... oh wait you won't even get the irony of that statement.

This is almost exactly what happened during the ARR launch, funny enough.

Still, you can't treat the problem with more hardware. Especially temporary floods of activity. There's a reason MMOs usually have troubled launches.

It'll fade within a few days, my only real regret is until then I have to hear all the WoW refugees threatening to punch holes in walls or throw an outright tantrum over 60 cents of subscription fees.

Just the usual traffic at this time. I managed to get on in the morning for about 3 hours with only 50 peeps ahead of me. Seems the best time during all this.

Square Enix should really just extend people's subs for free. Like a previous poster said, it's not very expensive so this is literally the least they could do.
