The multiverse post in General got me thinking about throwing some previous elements into the current FFXIV.
Granted, I would still like to see "cannot switch classes/jobs once the instance begins" mechanic implemented for strategic purposes with changes to the looting system to allow passing and accepting loot while dead (if necessary).
Magnetic Field
A "tower floor", "cave", "field", or room where heavy is continually afflicted. May affect heavy armor or metal weapons, but this may be difficult to implement in retrospect.
@Gladiators: Whoop out that Plumed Oak Macuahuitl, Lancers your Yarzonshell Harpoon ! And Marauders have long-term Enduring March ~ without the enfeeble resistance... or the Rampage maintenance.
May be a quest for light-weight Disciples of War and/or encourage the use of leathers and scale during such a location. Maybe it could be limited to the armor worn rather than the weapon.
Magic-Only Field
A "tower floor", "cave", or "field" where only magic may be used. This may be achieved by constantly afflicting pacification or TP drain on players.
May be part of a Disciple of Magic quest.
If it's TP drain, a Bard AF TP song might offset this impact. Encouraging one Bard to maintain this song for any War involved.
Does Pacification only prevent weapon skills and not non-magic abilities? If so, then Provoke, Flash, Cover and the like can still be used! If necessary, tank on a class instead of a job and load up on offensive magic.
Anti-Magic Field
A "tower floor", "cave", or "field" where magic is reduced in effectiveness or limited. This may be achieved by constantly afflicting silence, MP drain on players, or significant drop in all magic potencies.
May be part of a Disciple of War quest.
If MP drain, this may encourage a bard to maintain an AF MP song throughout the encounter. This may also encourage players to maintain themselves with potions or War abilities.
