How can server issues not be anticipated

This is a complete joke, I have played Endwalker since it launched this morning and have had no issues at all, I then get kicked from the game due to a stupid unecessary crash and then have to endure a queue of over 6K people no thanks, this should have been addressed before launch since the exact same thing happened in Shadowbringer, also don't include a system that allows visits to other worlds from the character menu since the option does not work

Its not that they can't be anticipated, its that servers can't be produced fast enough to meet demand due to issues brought on by Covid-19. There is currently a worldwide semiconductor shortage.

SE should have hit up Blizzard over the past few months for some used servers. I hear they don't need nearly as many anymore.

Because no matter how much prep they do, the servers were always going to be overwhelmed. Welcome to every MMO expansion launch ever.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised, they have warned multiple occasions that there will be a problem with congestion and server capacities this expansion due to multiple reasons, flood of WoW players coming in and a world shortage of chips being two of them. I get we all want to play and are excited to do so, but we have been warned and just need to give them time to get things going.

Literally any launch of an MMO or expansion especially one as big as this you're going to very likely get issues. They can mitigate issues, such, but as PredatoryCatGirl says there's 2 main things that impact this, COVID19 and the worldwide semiconductor shortage, adding more servers will spread the load, but if they cannot upgrade and add more servers then that's beyond their control.

Then add the fact we got a huge influx of players migrating from WoW recently and they struggled to handle spreading out those loads where a whole data center had to had new registrations turned off.

Adding new servers to a data center would resolve that but sadly is the thing they cannot literally do right now.

And the things they can control they have been pretty good about. It sucks for sure. But there's lot of these rage threads now. I've been playing MMO's for a long time now...this feels...normal?

Unfortunately the massive spike in traffic is going to cause problems. It sucks, but the problems will even out.

They were anticipated by literally everybody. There were people talking about it on the forums for months, and Square themselves released at least one post regarding it at least a week in advance.

It's impossible to know if your servers hold up to a load you don't have numbers on (citation: unknowable amount of WoW people who jumped ship or wanted to try out the new expansion features), even with stress tests. If, after the many examples of expansion-drop-day server issues from literally every popular MMO ever made, you didn't expect this, then you're willfully ignorant.

To all the smart folks cracking jokes at blizzard, SE could have easily reallocated some JPN servers to EU and USA since 80% of JPN worlds are not congested whereas every EU and USA world is.
