Interactive world map?

I was getting all nostalgic for a bit this morning over that FFXI thread that's around right now, when i got to thinking about the world map itself.

In FFXI, i frequently opened up the world map. I loved seeing which nations was in the lead and scrolling from side to side, seeing where i was in relation to everywhere else. Setting goals to reach a new place and seeing it on the map first. FFXIV doesn't currently have much of anything in that way to interact with in game, and i don't expect there's much point having it before 2.0 anyway. BUT, come 2.0, it would be awesome to have an interactive world map to pull up in the menu.

I agree with this, I also enjoyed the world map in FFXI...without it the areas kind of just feel like zones. I just recently set my desktop background as a map of Eorzea because I realized I barely knew what it looked like.
