Add a Toggle to Hide Other Players + Prioritize NPCs being rendered

    Hi there.

I hope everyone is doing well today.

I've just completed the first MSQ of Endwalker, and I must say, wow! What a quest! A couple of 'issues' I did run into, however, were players completely covering the Quest NPCs and having a volume of players so great that it de-spawns other NPCS around.

While this did not prevent me from progressing the MSQ in any way, the issue of NPCs disappearing is quite problematic if you're seeking to get additional Lore/Context to events.

    Some pros:
    - Increased FPS (Reduced Visual 'Lag')
    - Don't have to do some weird 'dance' to get NPCs to materialize.
    - Can actually see the character I'm interacting with
    - Can extend to PvM if NPCs are prioritized (no more disappearing Hunts!)
    - Can assist with Gold Saucer - Leap of Faith Events when it gets particularly crowded.

I do understand this is an online game and meeting/seeing other players is a 'feature' and to be expected, but having a toggle would be nice in certain scenarios.

    I don't know, that's my two cents.

    Roast this Dodo.

E1: This 'problem' gets exacerbated if people are also summoning their Chocobos.

You can use numpad 0 to set the NPCs as a target. It also works in very overcrowded areas.

    Cheers

On PC holding the "X" key for accessing crowded NPCs. This will turn all players names off and makes them untargettable.

This. Hitting 0 on the number pad will target the nearest NPC and hitting it again will activate it. I had to use this a number of times to start conversations with MSQ NPCs and it worked like a charm.

Thanks for the advice guys! Hopefully others will find use from this.

    -------

I personally didn't have an issue with clearing the Quest from the amount of players due to learning the above previously, but one real issue I have is with NPCs disappearing due to player density. It's sort of hard to explain, but you have to sort of walk back and forth and shift your camera all over to get NPCs to appear. You could be right on top of NPCs and still not have them be visible as well, assuming the Player Density is high enough, which in this case it is.

They are clearly able to make a fix to that, IMO, due to Quest NPCs being persistent. I just don't know the specifics of how they go about doing so engine wise.

    I still think there's merit due to my above 'Pros';

    - Increased FPS (Reduced Visual 'Lag')
    - Can actually see the character I'm interacting with
    - Can extend to PvM if NPCs are prioritized (no more disappearing Hunts!)
    - Can assist with Gold Saucer - Leap of Faith Events when it gets particularly crowded.

    Any input?

You can turn off other character names in character settings. I have them off normally.

Does anyone know what this setting is called? I'll be hunting for it later, but I have X rebound to a hotbar lol

100% agree NPCs should be prioritized anyway though. Especially enemies. Hunt targets disappearing mid fight is a uhhhhh anti fun time lol

NOTE: If there are multiple friendly NPCs around you you have to face the quest/correct target for NUMPAD 0 to select the correct one

NUMPAD 0 spam works very well in MSQ Roulette (Praetorium) for activating the teleporters / Doors / Walker Mount early and fast , and for the expert delivery GC vendor (handing in dungeon loot)
