I had no battle/spell sound effects after logging into Endwalker for the first time. Music and UI sound effects worked correctly.
Troubleshooting steps so far:
- Muted and Unmuted Sound Effects in-game using both System Configuration and the /soundeffects and /soundeffects 100 chat commands
- Tried changing Windows default sample rate to 44.1kHz (from 48kHz). No change
- I am currently in the process of reinstalling/downloading the game to see if I can get the sound to work in DX11. If this fails, I will post my System Information in this thread.
- Reinstalling the game did not fix this issue
- Updating Windows from May to November cumulative patch did not fix the issue.
- Disabling Bluetooth (I was not using it for audio) did not do anything.
- Restarted game client multiple times.
It appears others are having other audio issues that may/may not be related:

It may be caused by a sample rate issue. i.e. Endwalker spell sound effects supposedly are sampled at 44.1khz. If you have your default playback device set to default to 48khz, you may be experiencing this issue. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...er_use_441khz/
Update 10/12/2012:
Current Workaround
Doing the following has fixed this issue for a lot of people. It appears that after the Endwalker update, the audio device set for Combat sounds was either missing or set to a non-primary device. Switching the device to something else then back to the correct device forces the audio device to be updated correctly.
In Windows 10: Sound Settings > Sound > Advanced Sound Options "App volume and device preferences" > Find "Final Fantasy XIV" in the list and change the "Output" device (top entry) to anything other than what it is currently set to, then BACK to what it is intended to be to.
If the above fix doesn't work, you can also try the following:
1) (For Windows) Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Find your default playback device and go Properties > Advanced > Change default format to "16 bit @ 44.1khz"
2) Change client from DX11 to DX9. This can be done from the FFXIV Launcher by pressing the cog button.
3) Some people have found some success editing the .cfg file directly. See this post: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...=1#post5738516
Note: This seems to be a different issues to the popping audio issue people have been experiencing. If you are getting audio popping, see this thread: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...-popping-issue
