Goshdangit, hanging out in the character creation screen making bunbuns was literally all of my plans for today.

Guess I have to clean my house after all..

I had mine open 1 min before time and sat watching the green button, when it hit 9:00 the entire thing froze up and crashed and then all that happened.

If the option refuses to show up, you should probably contact customer support.

THis happened the last time the servers crashed as well. Im in the same situation, but the character create/edit is down. Its still active.

Once you can acctually see your char on the screen you can do it. Im affraid it might take a few days lol

That happens when servers are overloaded, maybe do it later.

I managed to get the new main title (which, is very impressive and has a new haunting theme)... and then upon clicking Start I got booted with a lobby server error. And now the launcher is stuck on the FFXIV title before the launcher itself, only to then crash with a HTTP system error. Only to be expected though.
