I hate playing as other characters

So how much of endwalker will be the horrible suffering of having to play as random scions?

I want to play the character I made. Not as the devs characters.

Now the ONE exception to this could be the scripted loss fights. If you are going to force me to lose no matter what I do (nevermind that should never be a thing, just make that nonsense a cutscene) then losing the fight as another scion would be okay. Enjoyable even.

It's a bit of a thing with FF titles where you play as different characters sometimes but go back to playing your main character. Personally, I like how they do that with FF XIV.

I've never understood this complaint, even though it pops up all the time. It's just a few duties. five or ten minutes of your life for said duties, and then it puts you back into your character.

You play as your character for hundreds to thousands of hours in this game... playing as another character for 10 minutes for a story related bit of content every now and then is not that big of a deal.

You can win every duty in the game on your main character without reading a single tooltip, but often the duties where you play as another character want you to at least glance at your skill selection.

Particularly thinking about the one where you need to use Break, without being too story specific.

thats totally me when taking control of alisaie, in shadowbringer, because i ve never ever played rdm i had absolutly no clue what or what was doing, legit waited to start the fight a good 4 min to read all skill xD

Alisaie's tooltips aren't that good tbh. It's not exactly clear, unless you already know how RDM works, what you are supposed to do with her from reading her tooltips. Fortunately that fight is pretty easy.

My main gripe with them besides they tend to feel slow, is that they put the actions on the pet action bar, which is not convenient for me at all. My keybinds and location of the pet action bar work well for that purpose, but are annoying af for combat and hamper my movement.

They always just replace hotbar 1 for me...

That's because most have the setting to replace hotbar 1 with the pet hotbar when the pet hotbar is available. It works similarly to when you need to use a beast tribe mount for one of their quests.

Because the NPCs are mapped to the pet hotbar, probably we'll never see them have more skills than said hotbar can contain.
