    Frontline WHM Tips (Send Help)

To start, I mained a healer in WoW since vanilla...so the transition to FFXIV as a WHM didn't seem too insane. First time I did Frontline I saw that all of my abilities changed...no biggy...I learned them, hotkeyed them...all good. Figured I would crush it....

    Wrong.

I've done about 5-6 Frontlines now and I land almost dead last in healing and it's killing me trying to figure out why. The healing charts aren't even close as I'm a solid 1m healing behind the top 3 in most cases. I just did a frontline where a WHM was not only almost top healing but also top 10 in damage.

So...What in the hell am I doing wrong?!

Screenshot of the leaderboard from the frontline that lead to me posting in this forum...... https://imgur.com/a/nF0eZ5E

    Thanks for the help!

Looking at the numbers in Frontlines CAN be pointless. For example healing between the 3 healers varies a lot cause some rely heavily on shields that aren't counted as healing while some healers might be spamming regen effects on parties and constantly gain tons of healing. Also healing can be party dependent for example a WHM who just keeps AOE healing a full 8 player alliance that is constantly in combat can reach over 3 million healing in maps like Onsal while someone might have a party that avoids fighting or is split around everywhere in the map so you wont be able to in any way compete with the same numbers. Also for the damage part the healer can do alot of damage by casting Glare's and other AOE while using only OGCD spells to heal. Being really comfortable with your job and playing with a premade party helps too

Well, that makes sense. I'm over here like...how am I this useless while I'm spamming heals and I KNOW I'm healing bc I'm watching health bars lol. Here's a question...if I cast my big regen spell...does it only affect people in my party or does it affect everyone in the raid?

AOE heals are balanced by making them only hit the 8 players in your party. To heal other alliances you have to use single target heals to assist.

The AOE version only affects your own party members within range. However, you can manually target other alliance members to use the single target heals on, including the single target regen.

Wowwwwww I did not know that. I've been healing as if I'm in a raid this whole time looking at all of the health bars of everyone on my team.

Looking at healing done is the last thing you should do. It might just show that the people topping the rankings have been mindlessly following the bus. You should instead focus on anticipating objectives and moving to them fast and safely since most maps work like that. And if you're lucky to have competent people that also play the objectives you will have a lot of heal to do.

Also healers are tanks so make use of that and of line of sight as often as you can, be that for baiting of simply tanking while your group dispatches the enemy.

Practice, experimenting, learning how the maps operate and not looking at numbers will definitely make you a better frontlines player. Never underestimate the weight a single player can pull by playing smart.

    1) Don't worry about your healing. Just heal whomever you can. Odds are you won't be healing most of the people in your party. You'll be healing those in your alliance.
    2) Play objectives and fight on objectives. But if there's a large crowd, then you should heal in the back.
    3) Use geography to your advantage. There's one map with the markets that have a lot of walls. You can hide behind the walls and most people won't even know you are there. It's very easy to take a base on this map, if you hide behind the walls.
    4) Dish out as much damage as you can.
    5) Use your sleep spell to cc people
    6) Avoid death. Living is the key to winning any Frontlines map. Runaway if it seems like you are going to die.
    7) Healing is hard against classes that have a buildup burst. Such as dancer. If a dancer bursts somebody down, then you probably won't get any heals off before they die. I do this all the time in Frontlines pvping as Dancer
    8) Healers in pvp excel in small-scale content. You can shine in Feast or the new pvp mode that's coming out. A good healer in Feast can carry groups. A bad healer will make your group fail though lol
