question regarding the lore because extremly confused here

ok so, was on youtube and saw a video that was going to "explain" FF14 lore, because was bored thought to myself "why not !"

first second, "the world we play in is called hydaelin"
directly i was like "wait what ? no !"

as far as i am aware the ascien CREATED hydaelin, and the world well, already existed at this time (ok she did split the world in many reflect true i agree so we could say that in theory its a brand new world) but still, not to mention that in the game, they mentionned hydaelin as a primal, an actual entity, and also well 99% of the population seems to ignore the word "hydaelin" all together, also that yes she seems to be in a form of a crystal in her own plane of existance that is "connected" to our world

im really confused here, is it common knowledge for everyone that
hydaelin = world of ff14 (actual planet aswell)?

hydaelyn is the embodyment of the planet. at least for the people nowadays. so over time it became pretty much the same in the mind of the living people.

We have a lore specific forum for questions like these but... Hydaelyn is the name of the planet and Hydaelyn is also the name of the primal summoned to limit and stop Zodiark. Afaik most common people know of the planet but very few are actually aware of Hydaelyn the entity.

im enclined to believe it, but do you have any idea of where in the game this was said ? (dont need to be specific just point me in right direction i will do the research), because i dont remember ever any npc saying anything about this like this

You'll need to progress the MSQ. Without giving too much away, the world we play on is actually called 'The Source'. It is one of several shards that the primal, Hydaelyn created to seal away Zodiark. Each of those shards functions as a 'world' in its own right. The role of the Ascians is to engineer what they call "The Rejoining", and a calamity needs to take place on both the source as well as one of the shards in order to rejoin that shard to the source. There are 13 of these shards in total, with the source being one of them, and the 13th (World of Darkness) was lost to the void. You will also note that the summoning of the primal form of Bahamut lead to the 7th calamity. This should let you know how many shards are actually left.

In archaic usage, any significantly large celestial body is called a star, including planets. This isn't an error, just an old and now-uncommon use of terminology.

It is called the Source, sure, but that's not its name. Whatever the Ascians called it before all the summoning went down is unclear.

This is just poetic license. Ancient peoples would refer to most heavenly bodies as stars. This included planets. It's why Venus is called "Morning Star."

You'll notice a lot of archaic language used in FFXIV for poetic license, and to create immersion. "Hydaelyn" or "the Source" is still a planet. We have even seen a SE produced globe of Hydaelyn.
