I've noticed a change in attitude as EW grows closer

Idk I've been noticing alot more ppl facetanking mechanics and laying on the floor lately. Especially in Bozja areas. I'm seeing wipes on the first boss of CLL, mass graves on CE's that didn't really have them before, Lyon DPS check failures, mass death everywhere in Dalriada and DR, etc... It makes me afraid to queue anything with savage, extreme, or ultimate in it's title right now.

That's Bozja, though. It's its own different animal. For regular content PUGs, I haven't noticed more facetanking mechs or laying on the floor than usual, but I'm a healer main so that's kind of my life anyway. I see the same ratio of chatty groups versus not chatty groups and even if there's a mistake in a run, it's just the one random jerk now and then who makes a big deal of it. Most people are still pretty chill. And when you mention you're grinding X or Y, that can start off conversation as those who are also doing it commiserate together.

I joined at the beginning of the 'WoW Exodus' curve a while before all those allegations came out, and my first impressions of FFXIV were amazing; particularly from the community.

Everyone in FFXIV seemed extremely social, extremely helpful, and extremely patient, all things which I took full advantage of from level 1 all the way up to where I am now. I made a few cool friends and joined a FC, and had tons of fun hamming it up with people in the Diadem while I saved up for an apartment. I was having a blast!

But as time went on, it felt like all those chummy, friendly people stopped being chummy and friendly, with the pervasive attitude I felt shifting from social to... silent. No responses when I wave hi in dungeons, nobody wanting to talk in the Diadem, even Limsa is silent except for RP ads and RMTers.

And as time continued to pass even further, the silence turned into uncomfortable judgement. A situation that is recent in my mind is an Eden's Promise: Litany run that I was directly responsible for wiping once. I was being bothered by someone IRL and couldn't put my full attention into healing, and died a few times before the other healer couldn't take the stress anymore and died as well. I knew it was my fault, apologized, and got a very passive-aggressive response. We pulled again and I feel like I did a real good job. When we killed it I thanked the RDM for their help, and was met with another passive-aggressive response before everyone dipped out of the lobby.

Now, I'm not saying people aren't allowed to be passive-aggressive; I'll admit that I was pretty toxic too during my time in WoW (though I swore to leave it behind when I came here). But such a drastic change in attitude in both open world, low, and high level duties? What could have happened?

Did hardcore WoW players saturate the game? Did all the friendlier people leave to wait for EW? Am I just going insane and nothing has actually changed?

Ah, yes. The Ol' FFXIV good WoW bad thread. I figured we were due for another one.

I'm still at a single 'jerk' encounter out of the 600+ dungeons I've been doing since coming back a few months ago so I'm gonna go ahead and say no, nothing's changed.

I didn't really want this to be a WoW bad FFXIV good thread, I was just wondering about the noticeable change in tone from the community. It's kind of ignorant to think that WoW doesn't have a lot of the problems that it has, but it's also ignorant to think that FFXIV is flawless.

typically whenever a game's dlc/expansion etc is nearly here people are overwhelmed emotionally with joy, anger sorrow etc

Whenever a game delays (not saying its bad)

it makes those overwhelm emotions amplify, so ya some people will have a momentary (few days) of different personality's and honestly we should forgive that and just go about our day because its understandable.

Since honestly most the time you don't even notice when your in that overwhelmed state

The further you progress, the more you'll run into cynical and jaded heels like me. We treat the young ones well, but we snicker when we see an icemage in expert roulette.

And people, in turn, snicker at me when I can't keep banana up on sam.

Lots of things can affect the community's expected attitude.

Overall attitude for the day could've been bad, drama (ingame/irl), endwalker last minute or rushed prep, player's expectations of a given duty being much lower than expected that it starts tilting them, and people just want to get this content over with (mostly happens to people who run the same content over and over and then you'd have new people or people who haven't really done this duty other than once for the story).

But it's most likely just Endwalker is about to drop and people are trying to rush, and if they're far behind what they wanted to accomplish, they're goanna start tilting a lot more.

FFXIV has its good points, but it's not always sunshine and rainbows. Just remember that people are people. We all have different skill levels, sometimes have an off day, and sometimes end up shitting on others indirectly as a result to vent some frustration. Most people keep their behavior in check, but sometimes it does leak out. Plus, Communication is something people can easily neglect or misinterpret when things aren't going their way. The best thing to do is not let the bad things bother you too much, and return negative behavior with a positive mindset instead.

Or just block them, whatever works for you. I have an FC that actively talks while I'm doing a duty, so most of the bad attitude just passes over my head since any toxicity I encounter on duties isn't enough to phase me or warrant more brainpower on it.
