What makes RDM an easy DPS?

The basic answer is memes. The irony is you see a lot of bad red mages running around because "it's the easiest job in the game there's no thought to it!"

With that said, the class is built very rhythmically. Compare to the currently very cryptic summoner with a high skill floor that has mechanics that don't mesh well with each other and rdm will naturally feel smoother.

That said, it's pretty lolsy someone suggested it has good mobility compared to other casters considering it arguably has the least on demand mobility of the subrole. But can't argue with the easy rez mage lol meme can you?

My advice? Practice. Come up with mental arithmetic shorthands so you're not looking at your gauge as often. Learn every opener for Red Mage, but realize 3-8 and 3-10 will probably be your go-tos. Most of all, be willing to make and learn from mistakes ^_^
