    Feature Ideas For The Game.

I had idea that I thought sounded pretty cool. At least to me it does. Not sure how this would work in practice but on paper i think this sounds cool. Make 14 slightly less linear. To open the main story up to be influenced by the players. Have some key moments in the game that can effect how the over all story unfold. Give players a choice at choose to be a Warrior of Light, or a Warrior of Darkness. The key moments could be for instance Raids. Which ever side beat their raid first effects the story into their sides favor. Which would make ever servers story slightly different from one another and give the game a huge amount of replayability. I'm not a pvp person so if something like this ever happened I'd like them to stay away from turning into pvp, faction vs faction like a lot of the other mmo's.

So basically it be like having a general layout for a story. With 2 different endings. We as the players have a hand in determining how it gets to either of those endings; and which ending we get on our server.

I'm not sure what you mean by "in their favor," but that would actually be pretty frustrating for me because I'm not a competitive world's first raider so it would feel like another player is directing my story for me.
I'd honestly rather SQEX just write whatever storyline they think is best instead of writing a few and having to adjust based on players. Especially since they plan things out so far in advance (Yoshi P said they're usually writing about an expac and a half ahead of where the players are, and have outlines for the story further beyond that) I really don't see how players influencing the narrative could be anything other than disruptive to their writers and their plans.

Perhaps something like this would work (on paper) as a way to shake things up for the next storyline. But a move like this following the conclusion of such a carefully crafted 10 year narrative wouldn't feel like a terribly natural follow up and would reek of "we're done making plans."

The game would need to start with an idea like this in mind. It's hard to implement something like this after the project is so far under way and the staff have already developed their structure and habits.

Expecting each server to be able to follow their own storyline doesn't seem like a realistic ask.
Considering how FF14 keeps working off of, and bringing up, elements from older storylines, unless they suddenly changed tact and chose to make every storyline super self contained, they'd just have the logistical nightmare of writing storylines for servers that are getting further and further separated from each other as time goes on. You couldn't just keep writing one-size fits all storylines unless they stopped weaving together a longform narrative, and that would go against everything they've been doing with this game's narrative.
Not to mention how disorienting it'd be for players to transfer between servers.

Nah The story should be the one thing that NEVER bends to the players. Keep it the way it is, Final Fantasy games were never about choice in the story anyway. Besides, I don't want the team to have to design two raids for everything just for light and dark as it'll never be equal and parts of it will feel lackluster. Hell you can make the debate it feels like that NOW.

A large part of that fiasco came down to disallowing players to select how the story played out for their version of the game world, not that a choice was presented in the first place.

We could quite easily stand to have more 'what if' elements to the story. Naturally it wouldn't be fair for anybody's character to actually be considered to be the hero of the story at the expense of anybody else's, so we're already doing that anyway. As far as I'm concerned, the canon hero of the story is the guy who shows up in the trailers. I don't acknowledge anybody else's character as being in that position and I don't see my character in that role in an official capacity, either. Mostly because most of the decisions made are not those that I would support if given a choice in the first place.

The Beast Tribe quests in Rak'tika gave players the ability to influence their version of the world's events in a way that made sense across the board.

Sounds kinda fun, but this is a Final Fantasy game, not Fable xD

I think you've missed the point of the entire current storyline.

You are basically asking for a different game.

Also "every time" (out of two instances) a choice of consequences was put to the vote, every server voted the same way so it's just inefficient use of resources to make two versions.
