Use the in game option of Support/Report Harassment, title it "Received Phishing Link in private message", copy/paste the message and time stamp, and provide the full date and local time in the report.
You will get a reply from Support a bit later.
Do people really fall for this? Don’t you have to copy and paste the link to go to it?
Yes and yes
If people didn't fall for it, then there wouldn't be any phishing attempts.
Just think; for everyone that is on average stupid, half of the rest of them are stupider than that.
Kirika Yuumura of the Noir
The Soldats' Manor, home of the Noir and of Noir's Eorzean Natural History Museum and Aquarium
Plot 7, Ward 22, Shirogane, Faerie
Noir... It is the name of an ancient fate. Two maidens who govern death; the peace of the newly-born Noir hands protect.
Tbh it's kinda elaborate, the link there if you only read the beginning may seems legit until the -yv.eu
I do get why some would fall for that, but yeah never click on link from users you have no idea who they are, or out of the blue.
Btw i suggest you to remove the name in your screenshot, you're not allowed to show names in screens even if they're scammers.
I usually just right-click "Report RMT Activity" on these.
... and it kinda is. They're trying to steal your login stuff, and if you've got any significant amount of gil, sell it for real money.
Often they use accounts that are temporarily compromised to do this. So the real owners will eventually get their accounts back.
It's like pickup artists that are cringe as hell.
The truth is that it works.
But how it works is that they just hit on so many women that they end up getting a catch.
If you go out and hit on 100 women there's probably bound to be at least one who's desperate or a weirdo.
This is also how these scams work, ofc the overwhelming majority of people don't fall for them.
But if you send out thousands of emails about how you're a Nigerian Prince then eventually you'll end up sending it to someone who's actually that dumb.
Tbh from the sounds of it only people that fall for it are naive, and maybe they should fall for them at least once so they can learn.
I posted about this a while back ago. It's getting more prevalent as the game's popularity peaks. This happens a lot in Genshin Impact too, where people will promise free premium currency and take you to a fake log in page.
