Am I bad for preferring White Mage?

This is going to sound really stupid; I know that right up front.


I've been reading over some of the threads here, especially the one that talks about which healer is easy and which is more difficult.


There seems to be a dump on White Mage. "It's easy." "It's for noobs."


I like White Mage. I feel like a real healer, as opposed to someone who puts up barriers.


Does that make me a bad?


tbh, I've been co-levelling both White Mage and Scholar. I like Scholar because I like pets, but don't like the shield healing.


I enjoy White Mage and really love Holy. That huge blast!!! lol

You're not. I like White Mage's class fantasy too. I just dump on it all the time because Astro is more powerful without any of the drawbacks in almost every single way, and it's legitimately frustrating how few ways the job has been allowed to grow over the last 8 years because "it's *~supposed~* to be so simple!"

White Mage is a job that anyone's allowed to enjoy because your fun is -your- business. The only way the average FFXIV forumgoer's opinions on White Mage would matter to you is if you aren't enjoying playing White Mage as much as you'd like and either 1) really want to see if other people feel the same way, or 2) want to figure out what it is you're not enjoying about it by seeing other complaints. If neither, don't sweat it!

If you feel bad that others seem to be upset with how it plays, understand that most criticism you see, whether it be White Mage, or another aspect of XIV or any game, is criticized out of love, or investment. Games are for fun first! We're just invested in making it the most fun it can be. It might differ, it might not, but I do think most of the longtime forum goers do have the average player's experience in mind to some degree, despite how it may appear.

Some people get very salty if WHM is considered tenable at all, even with the amount of time it spends at the bottom of the meta.

Ignore them. Play what you like. Even if you're planning to do savage raids, healers are in short enough supply you likely won't have issue getting a party.

Whilst I have a tendency to switch to other healers as and when it's needed. WHM has always been my favourite because it feels the most 'Healy' if that makes sense. Less emphasis on subtleties, more direct and straight forward potency.

Play what you enjoy. I played dragoon back in ARR when it was considered a meme (loldrg, floor tank, etc) because they frequently died due to the massive animation locks on the jumps, but that didn't stop me from loving it.

Don't let other people decide what you can or can't play.

Well white mage also really feels like the definition of the traditional healer, unlike clunky scholar or unorthodox astrologian.

People in this game really like to say something is easy to put others down and put themselves up.

"WHM is so easy, I play SCH instead"
"healing damage is so easy, I just cast dps instead"
"dungeons is so easy i do savage"
"savage is so easy, i cleared ultimate"
"ultimate is so easy now, it was harder in 2018/19/20"

There are things you can say is easier or harder for analysis purpose, for example WHM is easier to learn but playing well is pretty hard, while AST might be harder to learn but easy to play once you learn. But if someone says "xyz is easy", it doesn't make sense, where is the line for easy or hard? It is only a meaningless phrase to make themselves feel better, and you can ignore it.

And anyway, picking something hard when there is something easy is the actual bad decision
