If it makes you feel better, RL has a housing crisis too and people are stuck living in apartments....

Irl has the houses around thay people could get , the market just wants to much for the avarage person this days.

Edit also irl apartments are way nicer than the houses for that price, more room/more things added on, a gym, pool, hot tub + balcony's unlike the game

Edit two: also many people prefer apartments irl for those reason your not unreasonably taxed. Plus no community telling you what to do.

With that said for all the shills in here defending this years long issue, how is the game better by keeping this housing shortage as it is. FFXI had housing for all right out of the gate. This game was made by the same company that has not been able to fix this issue for years at this point. If your internet provider failed to fix an ongoing issue with your internet for years on end would you expect them to fix the issue? If your tv provider failed to provide all the channels you were paying them for would you expect them to fix the issue? I realize that these are not real life issues, but neither are the examples I have provided and yet most of you if you are being honest would likely expect the internet and tv providers to fix the issues with there systems and provide you what you are paying them for without being expected to sit clicking a button for 24 hours multiple times against bots or 3rd party software for a chance at getting some of what you are paying them for, right? So why is expecting this game developer you pay a subscription each month not expected to fix the issues their platform has in a timely manner just like any other industry?

Thing is, this is not what you're paying for in the first place, this content does exist as secondary stuff, but it's not what they're selling to you first.
What they're selling and what you're paying for is that you can log in on their servor and enjoy what's there, but nowhere it's written that since you pay a sub you're entilted to have X or Y.
If tommorow they decide to delete a part of the game, it's their right and they dont need to tell you anything about it, if you're unhappy you do not sub anymore and move on, if you keep enjoying it you continue to pay to play.
But none of the content of the game is entilted to you because you pay, you pay the entry ticket nothing more.

I disagree, you are paying for access to all the game has to offer. You have the same accessibility to all of the content, just like every other player. If you have completed all of the requirements in game to access this feature in game, but the developer has not provided enough space for the subscribers to access what they have worked to open up then the developer has failed to provide the service you are paying for. I am sorry but you are wrong. And the fact that this is your position makes it feel like you work for the company and are trying to defend their interests in this problem.

Your timing is off. SE is doing something. We've got the relocation change coming in 6.0 then multiple other changes in 6.1 that includes the addition of another 1440 houses and 4,320 apartments per world. We probably should let those changes get implemented and things settled after then re-assess the situation.

For now, players do have access to housing on every world (except Balmung). There may not be houses available but you can get an apartment. Like real life, sometimes you have to settle for the apartment until you can find an available house.

I always equate that to a theme park ticket - six flags for example. You pay for access to the park, youre not entitled to be able to ride every single ride especially when theres lines and hundreds of other people vying for their rides.

I promise you if you go to a theme park and go directly to stand in line for your favorite ride, you will be doing it that day unless the ride malfunctions and they have to shut it down. Lines are never so long that you can stand in it all day long and never get on the ride. You might miss out on other rides but you won't miss out on the ones you want the most if you prioritize them.

The same is not true of houses here. There are dozens of players who camp placards daily, prioritizing them over other content, and still don't have a house. The theme park analogy falls apart in this case.

Can we add these numbers to the calculations? It sure doesn't feel like 20% chance to get a house.

Those numbers are over a year old. They don't take into account the population explosion we had over the summer.

Lucky Bancho's census is going to be closer to accurate, though it does exclude characters level 60 or under since he can't distinguish between free trial and paid characters. Free trial accounts wouldn't be relevant to this discussion because they can't even have enough gil on an account to purchase an apartment let alone a house, and the number of new players with enough gil to purchase a house on a character that's only between level 50 and 60 would be very small.

Go to the 20211105 tab (that's his counts at the start of this month). Active character count over level 60 is listed in column P. Keep in mind that's characters, not players. While there's less pressure to have multiple characters in FFXIV than some other MMOs, a lot of players do have alts so the number of actual players will be lower.

Another thing that's going to throw numbers off - it is possible for an account to have houses on multiple worlds, just not multiple houses on a single world. We have no way of know how many players are multiple house owners across all worlds, though I imagine that number is fairly small. Still, each house over one on a multiple house account is one less house available to the general population.

I wish apartments have a small balcony/garden where you can put 5-10 outdoor items. Some quests give you outdoor items, which you, unless you own a house, have no way to display it.

Except there are no lines, only limited servers because the developer has not maintained their infrastructure in a way that provides enough room for all of their subscribers.
