Claiming that everybody above 100 Mil is cheating or botting is outright false.
I stopped selling back in 4.2 for the most part. Only need so much gil and after that it's simply pointless. I just sell tome mats and Materia given i do a lot of hunts. I wouldn't want to have to deal with the bots of today. I made my gil with gathering mostly and gather bots are a dime a dozen now. Feel sorry for crafters who have to overmeld and all to get to a point where they can sell high end gear only to have these bots kill the market for them

Very hard to make good money like in the days of Heavensward where mats from legendary nodes were real money. Things when down hill in that arena when they made getting node books easy for everyone.

Can I see the evidence you have to prove that every single person who has over 100 million has cheated? Source?

The thing is like, all you mentioned is optional gil sinks, this game has no mandatory gil sinks so its kinda really on you.

Beyond that, I think the addition of constant HQ gear drops during the leveling MSQ and side-quests was an even bigger culprit. It's hard to have an economy when nobody needs to buy anything from anyone else.

Actually, I've just had an interesting idea. I absolutely hate how zone access in each new expansion is gated by MSQ progress. It's antithetical to MMO exploration as far as I'm concerned. How about they put NPCs at each zone line, who basically shake you down or talk about a tax, and you have the option to pay them 1m gil or something like that to unlock the zone early? It even lines up nicely with people who'd rather gather/craft than progress the story, since they're the ones making enough money to spare the pound of flesh.

Same question for you then - what are you doing that earns gil, and how are you spending it?

Plenty of us have tips for easy way to make gil and would be happy to share them. But only you can control how you spend what you do earn.

Some things like repairs and teleport fees are pretty basic to game play. While we end up with ways to avoid them once we get to a high enough level, they're definitely gil sinks in the interim.

But you're right, the game lacks any substantial mandatory gil sinks. If players are poor, it's usually because they're giving their gil to other players through MB purchases.

Because that's how gil is primarily used, inflation ramps up quickly and the "poor" players feel even poorer as they have to spend more to get what they want.

Game is also lacking in optional gil sinks as well. People spend gil however its mostly just redistribution giving it to another player. The only part of MB transactions that count as a gil sink is the MB fees that are taken by the game for the transactions.

I'll agree and disagree with the idea that crafting isn't that profitable anymore. I don't know what it was like back then but what I notice is that the higher level stuff isn't as profitable because that's everyone's first instinct when they get omnicrafting through Ishgard is to just craft the best gear and sell it. However a lot of lower level items are still making good money. Same with low level shuffles. One very easy to use one right now that I'm not using anymore was buying carbuncle rugs and desynthing them. You could get the rug for around 5k a piece and you had good odds with proper desynth level to get 2 jute yarn, which depending on server can turn that 5k into a potential 60+. Looking at Lich prices a single jute yarn is selling for 60k. One of my earliest starts on gil was unlocking the beast tribe from ARR to buy Aldgoat Horn and just turning it into glue, that made money hand over fist. From that point I've diversified into other markets so I have absolutely no issue giving these freebies out since they won't negatively impact me down the line.

Spend some time killing megalocrabs in La Noscea at like level 12, you one shot them and the legs are turned into crab oil which can range from 1k to 5k per depending on how supply compared to demand gets. Just run a loop for an hour watching Netflix between the spawns and one shotting them. Take it a step further and use the crab oil to make the I think hammer that's used in crafting job quests HQ, even more money out of it.

Crafting is still profitable but not as profitable as it used to be. That's the downside of making it so available and dumbed down.

Isn't that exactly my point? You are just coasting on legacy privilege to accumulate all that gil. Do you know how hard it is for a new player to earn the same amount of gil?
