The other currencies cannot be traded, nor can most of the more valuable items that are purchased with them. That forces players into doing the relevant content to get the currency so they can buy the items they want.

If players could use gil to buy everything they want, they'd bypass doing the content. That would lead to the game getting a Pay to Win reputation, especially since players can technically buy gil for real money through Mogstation (though at horrible exchange rates most players would never pay just for the gil).

Because you can't just buy the best gear without doing the content to earn the special currencies, pay to win arguments fall apart. Obviously it doesn't stop some players from buying carries but their characters must still do the content to get the gear. They can't just take 2 million gil they bought from a RMT vendor and go buy the gear directly.

Your focus on the beast tribes as an example confuses me since you're earning the currency as you grind the rep to unlock items on their vendors. Usually you've earned more than enough by the time the rep grind has finished to buy everything you might want (special crafting materials from the crafting beast tribes an exception). From a lore perspective, it makes far more sense that they would want to only accept their local currency instead of a currency from foreign governments they're technically at war with.
