That's more like a resource & spending problem to me.
DoH/DoL will not guarantee you 100% constant stream of profit. Market is ever fluctuating. The most notably ridiculous profit you can get from DoH is by taking advantage of day 1 new crafted gears because they can sell for millions. But the price tend to only stay that high for few days so for those crafters you've seen in MB, they are most likely had been prepping for that moment. I feel it more like an actual job than a gameplay so I leveled DoH/DoL not to gain profit, but to reduce the amount I spend considerably.
Occasionally I may notice some crafted ingredients in the market was sitting a bit higher than usual: time for a profit making moment, however small it is! These are the ones with materials that can be farmed with retainers' venture. Send them out, receive the materials, craft them yourself, then sell them in smaller bundles. Players dislikes x99 bundle sellers. You can bait people to buy your material in higher price if you're selling just enough amount of what they need. And if these crafted ingredients are annoying to make, you can guarantee there will be some soul who will buy it. Some desynth'ed materials also provide these materials. Do not ignore them. Check the price before throwing them out. You can mark favorite these materials next time for easier price check, too.
Personally, I've moved away from DoH/DoL almost entirely. Only daily map really bothered me enough to get me that daily 35k - 50k gil. If you may, you might want to consider other options such as Eurekan bunnies (particularly Pyros and Hydatos) & BSF cluster/frag farm. These two are two major reasons I went past my first 100M profit mark in the span of few months... and I wasn't even playing for longer than a two-third of year at that point. Since you admitted for 'no lifing' the game, then you have the advantage over one best currency: time. Abuse it to your advantage.
Those 'nothings' are part of the "lol the game rains you with currencies". So no, they are not 'nothing'. They add up over time... unless one spend more than they make, then that's another entirely different story.
