Wow, that's was so unexpected, almost like they've done it for every expansion launch.

Not sure what you "told us". Oh yeah, early access will be cancelled. I didn't read that anywhere in the link though, is there somewhere else they said that.

Server won't fail because it only lets in a maximum number of people.

I've been here for EA on all the expansions so far and overall the experiences have been much better than those of other MMOs I've played in the past. Will there be issues? Probably. Are they life threatening? Nope. We've got plenty of time to do everything before the next patch. A few days to a week of instability and not being able to play all day, every day won't make a huge difference in the long run.

I have faith the the CBU3 team are going to put forth every effort they can to ensure this is as positive an experience as they can make it given the circumstances. A little patience, understanding, and long-term thinking will likely be to everyone's benefit.

My expectation is people will stay logged in by talking to NPCs for hours while they are afk causing the issue to be even worse.

They said in today's Lodestone post that the auto logout system is going to be an enhanced version of what we have now. It could, at least potentially, fill all the loopholes. But we will have to see the patch notes to know what has or hasn't changed.

In order to ease congestion, players who are inactive for 30 minutes will be automatically logged out. This feature has been updated in Patch 6.0 and has been enhanced from the previous version.

Well apparently the answer to my initial question was: We get a free week. That's classy!

Though, to be honest, my lingering concern is that there is no fix for the current situation aside from "a lot of people just lose interest." I honestly can't think of how anyone fixes this, in a timely fashion, even with all the money in the existing world as we know it with its chip shortages and such.

Maybe this won't be the last free week given out, I don't know, but I'm glad they see this as something in their arsenal.

I would love to be able to join a queue, right now it's just 3001 errors for hours. So I guess the game is just unavailable for the foreseeable future for me.

Wow and as soon as I posted this I took another close look at the applicable communication and, yeah, they've already mentioned that they'll keep doing this as much as they need to which is... admirable but a bit of a concerning, indirect admission. Again, I don't see how this clears outside of global rage quits.
