Not exactly. I believe back when HW was first announced Yoshi stated that he was getting tired of the whole 'Primals/Ascians/Echo/Zodiark/Hydaelyn/Empire' storyline started with FFXIV 1.0 and wanted to wind it up so he could "take the story in new directions". I lack a citation for that, but it definetely rings true with his more recent comments on the subject.

Either way, the setting and main characters will still be important even after the main story is 'completed' (FFXI showed that when it's storyline was wound up with the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel scenario), and it should go without saying that FFXIV's service will continue beyond with a whole new scenario, so really, don't worry!

But they have confirmed they will be making another story line afterwards, but who knows what that'll entail.
They've only really said they have no plans to stop supporting 14 and will keep making more content for it.

One story ends, but another will begin. It won't be the end of the game unless SE decides they want to kill the game before current stories conclude. Since it's one of, if not their biggest moneymaker that would be foolish.

I made the mistake of saying the story was likely over in 6.0 in so much I freaked some people out lol, so far from what I've heard via multiple different wordings from Yoshida- I would say we are coming to a close with our current saga but as Enkidoh points out that hardly means the game is done having something for players to be interested in. Just because one story closes doesn't mean it has to be the end, with a particular note of FFXI where they've not just killed the whole thing after FFXIV came out- so even if there were whispers of another MMO (which as far as I know there are absolutely none) you'd still very likely have more experiences in FFXIV to have.

I sincerely hope the main storyline ends in 6.0, with future expansions being standalone experiences similar to XI's expansions. That way new players can potentially start at the current expansion.

I think YoshiP means the story of Hydaelyn and Zodiark. Not necessarily the story of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.

I for one can't wait to finally have Hydaelyn and Zodiark story done with and moving to something else. Of course, each expansion so far had its own premise, but in the end all serving as background to Ascians and Zodiark major plot.

It honestly would give a breath of fresh air in the game.

Invoking the dangerous title of World of Warcraft here, but they did away with their main story/big bad two expansions ago and keep chugging along. I have no fear in my heart about the ending the 1.0 story leading to the end of 14. We have plenty of new and exciting adventures with the Scions to come c:

Eh, not really. They put him on ice more or less so they can play that card once things get bad again...and they will most certainly need to play it eventually, knowing them.
